I see this argument a lot. He could've (really, should've) gotten his $4M on top of whatever they give him for SJ2. Any way you slice it, he gave away $4M for nothing.

It’s already been reported that AD was being made up for the $4million through Space Jam 2, that’s not anything new that other teams would be watching for.
It’s already done. What can anybody do about it. It’s an outside revenue source not controlled by the NBA, that decided to make AD a higher paid movie star than originally anticipated

Even though they don’t get kawhi, the $4m is still being used to TRY and make their team better. They had to construct an entire bench so i think they needed any money they could get to use in free agency. AD even said he is more worried about winning than money.

The thing about Space Jam, though, was that it featured the game's biggest star, at the peak of his career. Everyone wanted to be like Mike.
If LeBron had done this movie two years ago, it would've been a hit, but I don't think he can carry it now. In another year, he's going to be a has-been. Everyone is going to know that he's doesn't have the best chance to beat the Monstars.
I'm predicting that Space Jam 2 will be a massive flop. The Lakers needed a title this year, and Kawhi and PG just ruined that for them, as LeBron's not even going to be the biggest star in Los Angeles.
