The issue with Zion is his habit of giving up on plays. It's like he doesn't think it's worth the effort to contest if he feels the shooter/scorer has an open shot or clear lane to the basket. He has to develop a never die/ never give up mentality on defense.

Looney is playing dirty right now. Punches Nance in the nuts and now hacks Herb in the face.

Worst thing is that he was getting away with it.

His defense looks no different than the beginning of his second season. As the season wore on he got better and better and was pretty much borderline above average by years end.

Missing last year I think it’s just going to take him time to get back in the flow and get switches down with the new guys.

On one play where Poole blew by, he and Jose didn’t communicate what should’ve been a switch

Zion looked better than usual on defense tonight.

No he didn’t, and he didn’t close the game out b/c he was that terrible on defense. Didn’t matter who he was guarding, they’d blow by him every single time.

The mother fricker looks fine on offense but he just doesn’t give a shite on D.

And it seems to be a potential stamina issue and he uses everything on offense, which would imply he's too big.

Zion needs to lose another 25 pounds if we are being honest
25 pounds? And you can tell this from your couch? You must be the most unbelievable nutritionist and personal trainer ever to walk the earth. Gimme a break.

It was legit awful.

A token play here and there doesn't make up for all the times he let dudes blow right by him, which there were plenty of

Lack of stamina doesn’t mean he needs to lose more weight

Indeed but at least it burned a lot of clock off

This game was way harder than it needed to be but hey a dub is a dub

He again showed his lack of BBIQ. He showed it at the end of the Lakers game and he did it (luckily with a little cushion) at the end of this game. He needs to work on understanding situations.

W is a W, but Zions D effort still stinks.

I do love how we killed the zone tonight.

Zion's laziness on defense has been a big reason for our issues on defense overall. The second someone switches to him on the perimeter, he gets blown by, forcing our structure to break down and leave multiple open passing lanes to dudes waiting to catch-and-shoot a 3-ball.

And at the same time he again was not used correctly on offense. I didnt see point zion one time today. Why does CJ have more shots than Zion yet again?

He was still bad defensively. But there are moments where he’s locked in and you see the potential to be better defensively. It’s really weird

Except that he was not bad overall. You would think he played bad defense if he had 12 blocks, 8 steals and a +45

They weren’t fricking around. They were bad.

You always take the win but that game raised some questions.

They aren’t concerns until we do it a few games though. They may come out and smack Atlanta.
