I could give a frick what twitter thinks about Rondo on the Pelicans. The bottom line is Rondo makes us a better team and makes sense for a team with limited options. Go watch the playoff highlights of Rondo and how he's still a force.

Chicago's NetRtg with Rondo on court last year was -2.1 which was slightly better than DWade's -2.4. It also rates him slightly better than E'Tuwan Moore's -2.4 for the Pels.
quote:
The Pels NetRtg with Frazier on the court was -3.0, so Rondo is at least an upgrade over Frazie
so ive seen this a few times and it is more than a little misleading. those numbers are interesting indicators of value, but also have context and that needs to be noted.
for instance-
Rondo has a -2.0. when he was off the court, the Bulls were a net +2. so a 4 point increase when he sat. Moore has a -2.4 while on, and Pels are a -1.0 when he sat. so a 1.4 point increase
they both played around 1800 minutes. but Rondo started 42 games, Moore started 22. that is worth thinking about when looking at Net Ratings for players
another interesting thing to note- the Pels had three distinct versions of their team during the year. Moore's worst stretch was from XMas-ASB. during that time, he played more minutes w/ Tyreke and Jones than anyone else. they were a -10.
luckily for the Pels, those guys arent around. really, the only thing worth digging into is how they played post ASB. and even that is troublesome b/c of sample size and that they were flying blind schematically after Cousins.
for reference, Moore was -1.0 ON. Pels were +.6 when he sat.
does any of that say Moore is definitively good or will be better than Rondo would be on this team? of course not. but it just isnt as simple as plugging in one player's Net Rating for another and viola!

And that's all I was trying to use it for. Is Rondo better than Moore? Based on what I've heard about Rondo's last season vs. what I saw of Moore I'd say no. And I have very real concerns about how effective a lineup of Rondo/Holiday/Hill/AD/DC can be on offense. I think a lot of defenses will leave a man on Jrue and basically double team both AD/DC daring Hill/Rondo to beat them with jump shots. They are going to have to constantly be moving on offense to be effective. It has to be a 5 man game because a 2 and 3 man game will get shut down.
All of that being said, karma was coming at Rondo like this was a relatively equivalent choice to trading for a Bledsoe/Lin/Jackson. I was really just pointing out he needs to judge him by a different standard because it looks like for now they've given up on trades and are hitting the bargain bin. Even though Rondo is a downgrade from many of our hopes and dreams for this season, I'm glad to see the team not make a move out of desperation. Even if that's just a negotiating tactic it shows growth and improvement in the process.

I agree. Biggest thing with him running point. Cunningham would probably play very well with him since he's been very good from the corner and he's great at cutting without the ball, and he finishes at the rim.

I have a question: Rondo is 32... May never get another contract worth more than the minimum after this year:
Would you be willing to give him a small 3 year deal just to be our teams vet (guy who has been to and won championships)?
If you look at the roster we have next to no playoff experience and guys who have never really won in the NBA. That's kind of scary.
I like him as much as anyone in that small role.
Can also start if there is an injury or lead a bench.
Rondo would just have to commit to that role and I would give him something like 3 years 10 million.

I think we've been missing that on-court veteran leader since QPon's injury. Which Rondo fills perfectly
With Rondo, the fear is him being a POS that ruins your locker room. Give him that 1 year contract this year, then a 2-3 year deal next year if he's stable.

he had a better 3% than Jrue last year but okay

Rondo wouldn't commit to the Pelicans for 3 years lol

I know he has a reputation as an a-hole, but he also has a reputation as the biggest game film junkie in the league. He could definitely teach some of the players on this team a few things.

absolutely not.
you give him a 1 year deal. If it works out, then he can have a 2 year deal next year with a team option for the 2nd year.

You're not seriously trying to argue that Rondo is a floor spacer, are you?
Dante shot almost 40% but he still got 3 back to back open corner 3s in a game last year. If you're a low volume shooter that defenses don't have to respect, the difference between 33% and 37% is negligible. Cousins might be the best volume 3 point shooter we have on the team right now. The only other 2 that would be considered volume 3 point shooters are Crawford and maybe Jrue.

They'd play a completely different role, IMO. Rondo will be a primary ball handler (which the Pels need), Moore can't really fill the role of primary ball handler, but he is a better shooter than Rondo.
I'm not sure what the point of comparing them is. I think Moore and Rondo would play well in lineups together (due to each of their strengths and weaknesses).

Would we ever consider starting Rondo, Jrue, Crawford, AD, DC? Hill off the bench?

Think we need instant grits to be the spark plug off the bench...but that is an interesting line-up.
