I am as dubious as this as they come, for the reasons I've stated multiple times. But I'll keep an open mind.

Take Thibs over Gentry 7 days a week.

Do not want.

The fact that this has been leaked makes me think it's not Gentry

Will never happen with Dell running the show. Thibs is Monty on steriods. He's def a better coach but will run into the same problems of the offense being to slow pace. Dell built this roster to push the ball and he's going to hire someone that fits the style of the roster he put together.

Thibs- 5 years as a HC, Playoffs every single year.

Gentry - 12 years as HC...playoffs twice in his entire HC career.

Makes sense.

Its amazing that this guy is a hot HC name again. He just keeps failing as a HC, going back to being an assistant and lighting it up, and then getting another HC job.

Guy is a great offensive assistant coach. I mean absolutely great. He has consistently failed as a HC though.

He reportedly is the Bulls' backup plan to Hoiberg. Not joking. Not sure if true, but has been reported. Radio today, no link.

Maybe this was leaked to put some pressure on the Bulls? I'm not sure, but frick, I don't want Gentry. As fun said, 2 playoff runs in 12 seasons, that's worse than Monty.

Dell should worry more about winning, than play style.

2 Things:

He is, by all accounts, a likable NBA lifer.

I think most people liked what he did in Phoenix. The D'Antoni core was falling apart and the owner is a clown (infamous comments during the lockout). Kerr left that mess unscathed too.

Would he be a great hire? Not really. But I think he's got his ego in control that he wouldn't be threatened by bringing in a top notch number 1 assistant.

All I want is that they get a guy who shares the same vision as the front office, whatever it may be.

Pretty sure if Loomis had someone he really liked and could trust as a GM, Dell would be gone.

:dumars:

But seriously, he wouldn't tell the press Demps is in charge of the coaching hire if he didn't trust him.

well, he is one of two coaches to sweep a Greg Popovich team in the playoffs.

The other being the 2001 Lakers...the team that went 15-1 in the playoffs.

just a random fact

There are doubts no matter who we hire and statistically, coaching hires are a total crapshoot.

But I would love this hire. I think Gentry grew up a lot between his prior coaching stints and his time in Phoenix. he took those Nash Suns teams to their peak before management and injuries tore that team apart. I think his style is the perfect fit for our roster and matches Demps' vision well.

He's also got the right personality for New Orleans and his players love him (good for keeping Davis around and attracting FAs), which is my biggest concern with Thibs, who has a mixed record when it comes to relationships with players.
