I'd be happy with Gentry. I don't think he's a slam dunk hire but our offense with him as HC would be pretty amazing. If he hired a top level defensive assistant then he could be really successful here, IMO.

Its amazing that this guy is a hot HC name again. He just keeps failing as a HC, going back to being an assistant and lighting it up, and then getting another HC job.

Guy is a great offensive assistant coach. I mean absolutely great. He has consistently failed as a HC though.

This. I'd be disappointed, if we hired Gentry.

The other being the 2001 Lakers...the team that went 15-1 in the playoffs.

So no one won a championship that year?

They didn't have Anthony Davis.

he killed it with a good roster in PHX...can't really blame him for sucking when Stoudemire left and Nash was a shell of himself. That roster sucked.

...dunno anything about his HC days before PHX.

Gentry is only being reported due to needing permission.
Pels have/will talk to others.

This won't be a quick process

This is how I feel. His only other coaching stint in the past 20 years was with an absolute shithouse Clippers team tat was doing Clippers things for his one year there.

Plus, it's silly to think he hasn't grown up at all as a coach over 20 years of working on the staffs of some of the best basketball minds in the game.

Again, I don't think there's such a thing as a slam dunk hire in NBA coaching anymore, but I think he's as good a candidate as any. There are plenty of reasons to doubt him, but same goes for any other available coach.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that was when the first round was still best of 5

Anthony Davis in that high octane prime Stoudemire role is very appealing

...and I agree, this team is built to absolutely destroy in that type of offense...would definitely be fun to watch.

Before 2003, the first round was only a best of 5.

This sounds like a power move aimed at the Bulls as much as a legit interview.

Yep. If anyone read that article I linked the other day that analyzed all hires since 2001, you see that it's kind of scary (if not depressing )

I have to believe they'll talk to multiple candidates. In the end, though, it's a crapshoot.

ETA: If it's possible to have an offensive minded head coach with a top defensive assistant and make it work, great. Thing is, if you're pushing and scoring, it automatically follows that there are plenty of scoring opportunities on the other end. Oh, lawd, I don't know what we should do.

osing record in 12 years as a HC

to be fair, he has been an interim coach 3x's, that are included in those 12.

What teams has he coached that should have made the playoffs?

those Clipper teams were bad. What a horrible franchise until recently.

Phoenix was pretty meh after Stoudemire.

The only way I'd be pumped for a Gentry hire is if he took Ron Adams with him, too. I think that would be a fantastic hire, in that case.

Thibs- 5 years as a HC, Playoffs every single year.

Gentry - 12 years as HC...playoffs twice in his entire HC career.

these aren't apple to apple situations.

Other than Thibs (for the sake of argument), who's available and has "done shite" in the NBA? Serious question.
