Hey many, I am just repeating what pretty much everyone is saying, that that team will have to rely on defense.

None of those percentages are particularly great, and from what I've read, they are pretty misleading as to how good of shooters those guys actually are.

They are decent scorers but not shooters.

Yeah, if they sign Teodosic I'm not sure what to make of them. They'll be worse defensively but may not lose much on offense.

exactly

Teodosic adds a ready made NBA guy. They are meeting with Derrick Rose

Blake Griffin and Galo can facilitate offense, too. You can't write them off at all

The most logical thing to do was probably draft Fultz and move on from IT.

not if you had any interest in signing Hayward. or in being a 50 win team any time soon.

One of Smart/Bradley are necessary to cover up for IT on defense

Hayward can defend. Brown can defend. Crowder can defend. add Horford and you have a team that can switch everything fairly well 2-5. its a (very) poor man's version of what the Warriors can do defensively with the death lineups.

plus, there's only so much you can do to hide Thomas. i'd rather go with the size/length of those guys over smaller, shorter players in Smart/Bradley- all respect to their considerable defensive prowess.

quote:

if they hope to develop Brown and Tatum while playing Hayward, they will need minutes at some point.

this gets to my actual point- why does it have to be one or the other?

you seem to think these guys only play the 3. the positions dont matter with them- they can be considered a 2-4 and Hayward can be a facilitator. they could run a Hayward/Brown/Tatum/Crowder/Horford lineup if they wanted. i hope they do

Brown played 17mpg on a 53 win team and is developing nicely. they move Smart or Bradley (who are 2s), that opens up 30 minutes on the wing. they can up Brown's mpg and find 15-20mpg for Tatum- which is all he should probably get anyway. again, they are trying to win games and contend for a conference title. giving lots of minutes to rookies is a bad idea if that is the goal

quote:

may trade him would be that he made some noise when the whole courting Hayward stuff started

now that may be a reason to move him. and that makes sense if it is indeed a problem. dropping Jae Crowder (to the Pelicans) for an imaginary minutes crunch doesnt

Its the same argument as Cunningham: 39.2% (2.7 attempts)

Like Cunningham, Teague and Wiggins aren't threatening 3pt shooters. Teams dare them to shoot those shots rather than giving up an easy lane to the basket.

Butler and Towns defenses actually contested

They aren't gonna be great but they've got at least as many shooters as we do, and better perimeter defense.

I think people are overrating what their defense is goign to be. Butler halps a lot as will maturation of Towns/Wiggins and no longer playing Lavine, but Rubio was a big part of their perimeter defense and they were ranked 27th last year. Does Taj Gibson and Butler make that much of a difference on their defense? I also think that offensively you cannot just assume that Butler and Wiggins are going to gel right away.

Sure they lost Rubio who was good defensively, but they add Teague who's also a pretty good defender, then they add butler who's all NBA defensively. They've now got two guys who can guard anyone on the perimeter along with two good defensive players down low. Plus an excellent defensive coach. Their defense is not overstated at all.

Why would drafting Fultz instead of trading down for Tatum prevent them from signing Hayward or getting 50 wins? Do you think Tatum is contributing that much?

If their team is still going to revolve around Isiah, they need someone who can consistently guard 1's. Smart and Bradley can do so and also defend multiple positions. I do not know how effective Hayward, Crowder, Tatum, or Brown would be matched up against someone like Kyrie. Jae's contract is the sticking point. If Jae was on the last year of his deal, he would be gone. However, because of the contract I think they keep him for at least this year and move Smart.

From what I remember Miller was actually really good at moving the ball on offense, but we were playing Montyball back then. He might fit Gentry ball better if he's improved his shooting and other skills.

Cunningham isnt threatening bc he is strictly a corner 3 guy, where literally every one of his 3PM were assisted last season. He has no threat of an offensive game outside of that.

Teague or Wiggins best trait isnt 3P shooting but it is part of their all around offensive game. No one is leaving them open to shoot like you are alluding to.

Teague cannot guard anyone on the perimeter. And Wiggins is not a good defender.

KAT was terrible on defense last year.

Probably brought in to fight for the 15th spot, pretty sure he played with both AD and D.C. at UK, so there's that.

I don't think the Clippers win 50 plus games, but I'm not sure if we end up with a better record than them either. The Grizz, Jazz and Kings just seem like wild cards at this point.

I'm just frustrated as a fan because nothing is happening even though I know that a trade is the only way we are going to get any upgrades at the moment.
