Other possibility is that Dell has got someone who he thinks is a discount with the Full MLE. Maybe Rondo or Collison.
He could also make some moves and work below the cap, and if that's the case you wouldn't be able to use any part of the MLE over about 4.3 mil (amount of the room exception). I think he's keeping all of his options open at the moment.

Holiday is pretty similar to Moore, so it's not a big deal to miss out on him.
I don't get the Moore hate from Pels fans. Hes better than Justin Holiday. ETA- He's better than oft mentioned target Kent Bazemore and a hell of a lot cheaper. Grass isn't always greener
He's making MLE money to play solid defense, hit 3s at a good clip, and create some with the ball. What do people think that is worth? They need more guys like him being paid appropriately.
Using him as sweetener for an Asik/Ajinca dump would likely be a bad move for the Pels

add a PG good enough that they'll feel comfortable trading Holiday by next year while he's still on the cheap end of his deal
2 issues, I think:
assuming they get to keep Cousins next summer, they probably had a good year w/ Holiday. dumping him after that might be tricky in the locker room
Bobby Marks said half the league might be over the tax line next summer. Might be hard to find a partner

corndeaux, you might have the answer to this question. Going into the tax does not forfeit your portion of revenue sharing from luxury tax payers correct? If half the league is going into the tax, that might offset any tax bills that come along as long as we don't go crazy?

With any luck that means he's also becoming a valuable trade asset and you wouldn't be dumping but exchanging. When I mentioned Philly I would expect to get some assets back because you'd be giving them a good player to take them to the next level. But I could also see a scenario where you trade your dime for 2 nickels. Holiday for Beverly + Ariza would be a type of move to go after. And before the trade machinists start tearing that deal apart for many obvious reasons, it was just meant as an easy to grasp example. We're also talking about a situation where things have gone well enough for Cousins to resign so Holiday's value is increasing. It's crazy how players all of a sudden "become" good when their team starts winning.

That sounds like it may be the case, although this info isn't based on the newest CBA.
quote:
Under the 2005 agreement it was funded entirely through luxury tax revenues, and redistributed an average of $40 million per season. However in many cases teams merely got back money they had put into the pool themselves, so the net redistribution of money was much lower than the gross distribution. Under the current plan, for example, $153 million was redistributed to small-market teams in 2013-14.

However, I remember pretty distinctly during the Monty era seeing that going into the tax did disqualify you from receiving tax subsidies. Although Revenue Sharing and spreading the tax money around aren't necessarily the same thing.

Wilson Chandler is a given. I wonder who the other two are.

dumping was the wrong word choice there.
you're right about his value perhaps going up. the issue to me would be making sure Davis+Cousins would be okay with trading him. that might be a tough sell to them if they win 45+ games this year.
then again, maybe they get an offer that makes them happy or they decide they dont like Holiday that much or whatever

i thought going into the tax did forfeit payments too.
i think you're right about revenue sharing v tax payouts

That makes going into the tax even more expensive. If the cost was somewhat offset by the other tax payers, that makes sense to think about it. I personally always thought that going into the tax forfeited the right to the tax revenue from other teams as well. Just talk of 15 teams going into the luxury tax and forfeiting that portion seems CRAZY if they're essentially getting whacked twice.

You have to remember that the new TV money is giving each team in the ball park of an extra $25 million each year even after the players take their cut. That's basically found money and in some cases might be the team's biggest revenue source.
For instance the Pels TV deal is in the $10-$12 million range IIRC. And this is fuzzy memory math, but the average season ticket for the Pels was around $30 and a good season would have around 600k tickets sold for around $18 million. So the ESPN/Turner money is bigger to the Pels than their own TV deal or ticket sales, and this is a new source of revenue that didn't cost them anything to create. That kind of found money makes dipping your toe into the tax more viable.

How do you guys like Khris Middleton?

3 players that could be had by trade that could make this team "dangerous". Let's go:
Bledsoe. Has to be one of the names. Makes too much sense.
Lin. I don't think he makes this team dangerous. He's a good player but that's it. Considering MM's hardon for him that name makes sense.
I have no clue on the third that MM would consider making this team dangerous. Dion Waiters S&T? No idea.

Miami did get a lot of mileage out of Babbitt. Maybe they're ready to give Ajinca a try?
