right.
no dispute on the better player, but the degree of difficulty w/ Cousins on and off the court is high.
i'm curious to see how it shakes out with Davis+Cousins. but, in this alternate universe, having Davis/Holiday/Wiggins core is not a bad place to be at all

When comparing all 4, he's the worst. Sucks is a stretch, but he isn't great.
All 3 are better shooters than him.
2 of them are better facilitators than him.
All 3 are better defenders than him.
2 of them are better scorers than him.
He has them on youth, but contracts are about to be even.
His ceiling is insanely high but he's never going to reach it or even close, I'd bet any money on that. If Minnesota is even entertaining trading him, that tells you more of their opinion of him as well. They don't have to rush to compete yet considering their #1 guy is still on his first contract as well. Unlike us.

Portland has traded Allen Crabbe to Brooklyn for Andrew Nicholson, league sources tell ESPN.

Portland will waive and stretch Nicholson's contract, league source tells ESPN.

That's a $2.8 over 7 years stretch and puts them just $2-$3 million over the tax now.

so they couldn't overpay for KCP or Hardaway so they make a wildly uneven trade for a similarly overpaid wing player.
Helps Portland get out of the tax at least. Not a terrible move by Brooklyn I guess since they have all that cap space.

They're the ones that made the hostile bid on Crabbe in the first place last year. You know how GMs have their own favorite players.

His salary kicks up to $23M with the trade. I guess Brooklyn has to pay someone.
ETA: Wow he waived the trade kicker. They get him for $18M. Actually not an awful price.

Sources: Crabbe waiving trade kicker. Also: Portland, Nets had to wait one year from matching of Crabbe's $75M offer sheet to execute deal.

In hindsight letting Crabbe walk would have been better, but Portland at least got a chance to see if he would live up to the deal I suppose.

Here's a thought...
Nets have a logjam at guard now and doubtful that Lin would start with Crabbe, Russell, and LeVert there and they have $16.5m in space
Wonder if they would be willing to take Asik a pick and Pondexter for Lin?
Saves us $2m or so this year and opens up space in the future.
Lin can be a bench gunner and our backup PG.
Or he can start and Rondo comes off bench. Either way I like that guard rotation.

Huh. Kind of smart move by Portland just cutting their losses there.

That's a bad deal for Brooklyn. They had the most space in the NBA I believe, and with the kind of tax that Portland was looking at, I think they should have been able to squeeze a first out of the Blazers.
I still think the guy has potential to be a solid starting SG, and he was lights out from 3 last season (on 6.7 attempts), so it's probably not a terrible move. Still, that's a move that's probably still available months from now, so hold out for a lotto protected pick and keep looking for better deals around the league to sell that space for.

That seems like a better idea now than it was 3 weeks ago. With that kind of depth you probably jump into the 4-6 range for sure. You also have Rondo as leverage against Lin in resigning him. You're still thin at SF but can run enough effective 3 guard lineups that it may not matter.
Rondo/Lin
Holiday/Moore/Crawford
Hill/Miller
AD/Cunningham/Diallo
Cousins/Ajinca

If Portland is still in the tax by 2-3M, we do have our Trade Exception we could use on Noah Vonleh. 1 year left at 3.5M which is what Buddy's TE is. Do that instead of resigning Dante for pretty much the same amount.

BKN only has about 3.5MM space left

While Dante would in theory be the 3rd big, he's also the 2nd or 3rd SF because right now all they have is Hill/Miller/QPon. Vonleh is strictly a big right?

Guess you could also flip Ajinca for a second and try to sign Henderson or Afflalo to add some SF depth. Then try to find a minimum guy to take Ajinca's minutes?

Lin makes $12 and Asik/QPon are $14.4. They'd only be taking on an additional $2.4 million this year and they'd still be a good bit away from the tax.
