Ingram, Garland, Hart + 2 1sts would have been a pretty good return.

Listening to Jake's whole podcast this morning, he has the impression that Griff and Nelson are the main pain points for Zion with the team. Jake isn't a super insider, but he has a better view than we do.

Cleaning house might be the right course of action but at the very least there just seems to be no excuse to not fire those 2 by the end of the year.

Add Lonzo and you honestly have the makings of a strong playoff team....which would have been an upgrade over what we had with AD. The return was good, it is how we managed it that was the problem.

Garland, Lonzo, BI, Zion, Val w/ Hart, Herb, Graham(?), and Billy isn't a bad group of guys.

And we would look like one of the highest ceiling young teams in the league with that core.

Griff got cute his first year and the Pels paid the price.

If this organization wants to salvage the relationship with Zion then they have to get rid of Griff and Nelson. The Griff component is obvious. The Nelson component is probably surprising to some but I feel this may be the most important.

I don't know if the idea was Griff's or just Nelson's, but the bursts and the way they brought him along as a rookie was a huge mistake. I've said it many times before but there is no research or case studies that I can find that say there is added benefit to limiting minutes in a return from a meniscus injury to "bursts" with no regard for game situation. I really think we would get a new Zion if they got rid of both Griff and Nelson.

Maybe in terms of Zion's immaturity, but so far Nelson's approach is absolutely looking like the right course of action.

"Bursts" is just another name for minutes restrictions and that very much a tried and true practice returning from lower body injuries. Zion and his family, according to reports, just live in a naive bubble about his own body, thinking they know better than the world renowned vet sports doctor.

Zion and his family seem like the types that are not going to admit they are wrong, but Nelson hasn't been wrong on this and I'm not sure if we brought in someone that was more of a yes man to Zion that he wouldn't be in an even worse place physically.

To me I think the main problem continues to be Griff, who did to Zion what he seems to like to do everywhere, which is micromanage and smugly assert how his way is superior. It seemed like Griff tried to micromanage his entire professional life beyond just injury protocols.

Remember how they spent a lot of time rebuilding the biomechanics of how he did things like dunk? Their logic was "his normal biomechanical habits are bad. When he's tired he will revert to dangerous movements rather than use the safe movements we've taught him." It was definitely an over cautious approach.

Bursts are not another name for minutes restrictions. Minutes restrictions would have allowed Gentry to determine how to play Zion for those minutes. If you can find me another player who came back from a minor knee surgery and had to play hard capped minutes with no regard to game score or situation, I'd love to hear about them. Guys come back on minutes restrictions all the time. However, I have never seen a guy with the rigid restrictions that Zion had for the amount of time he had them.

Again, this was a minor procedure that he had. I know how frustrating it was for me as a fan, I can only imagine how frustrating it was for Williamson. It definitely didn't help that in his very first game he had the crowd going and a chance to win the game and he had to watch his team lose. I am in the camp that it was a huge mistake because it damaged the relationship with the star player with no proven benefit. They could have easily put him on a "minutes restriction" but allow Gentry to decide based on game flow and situation.

The rigidity and lack of flexibility of the rehab program and bursts makes me think Griff was heavily involved because in rehab programs we take into account many variables and they are never as rigid as Zion's was.

Obviously it's different if we took Garland, so that's fair.

But the outright 1sts and pick swaps were largely worthless because those picks were/are never going to be remotely close to the lottery, which means we were never going to swap with them and any 1st round we do get is basically 2nd round territory.

I remember laughing at Crewz when he mentioned that rhe league has passed Nelson by and that people in the industry laugh at him being considered good at his job. He claims he is living off his reputation. Perhaps he was on to something

Care to elaborate?

Besides Zion who only works out with his dad, everyone has been pretty good health wise.

I'm not sure that's true. I would say the rest of the league has caught up as he was one of the first focusing on Biomechanics for lack of a better word. I don't know that he's been passed up unless he's anti bio-monitoring.

It doesn't really matter though. Your star player doesn't trust him. Unless you can mend that fence Nelson would need to go even if were still the best in the league.

If the rest of the team have 0 issues with Nelson, I'm not firing him because zion and his family do.

Seems like everyone else has been doing pretty well. Some injuries I don't think can be avoided (I.e. Hip injury in game). But conditioning even at the pace we play, seem pretty damn good.

Yeah, but since the rest of the league has caught up, you should be able to get someone as good as Nelson that doesn't have the baggage with Zion. That may not be fair to Nelson, but Zion is the one that's hard to replace, not Nelson.
