Nah. Burn it all down. Langdon, Griffin, Cash. Gone. My preference is to keep Willie bc 4 coaches in 4 years is just not good.
If you want to attract anyone worth a damn imo, you cant put conditions on their employment like retaining a coach.
It’s what got us into this mess with Griff in the first place, because he was one of the few that was slimy enough to not just be upfront and admit he wanted to bring in his own people because Gayle reportedly had a personal fondness for Gentry as a person. And Griff said what she wanted to hear.
You can’t ask someone like Bobby Webster, Mike Zarren, Milt Newton, or Calvin Booth to come take over as Exec VP of the Pels and tell them they can’t pick their coach….though I’m not sure any of them would come here, but even the guys with less impressive resumes I imagine would be hesitant to accept such conditions

Bottom line. Griff is a Daewoo used car salesman and he sold Mrs B, and this fan base a fricking lemon.

Mrs B needs to do what needs to be done.

I'm not concerned about throwing away a diamond in the rough but I do worry about the instability with Zion going into an important contract year. I also wonder how good the relationship between Langdon and Zion is. If it's good you don't want to just fire Langdon without having a handle on who would replace him. Hiring a new GM isn't a guaranteed upgrade. You could easily hire another GM that won't connect with Zion.
There's absolutely no way that we should just fire Griffin and promote Langdon. If Griff goes, then Langdon and Swin need to go too.
The big positive from Langdon was supposed to be his in-depth understanding of European basketball and his relationships and scouting there ... and all that eventually turned into Nicolo Melli, one of the biggest misses of this front office.
[Edit:] I also want to know about Langdon's role in the Didi extension, as I believe that was largely his call.

Seems like a good dude but he’ll probably just need to be collateral damage in a purge of this horribly mismanaged franchise
Ah yes, the 4th coach for this young team to go through

Who trusts Griff to make any more decisions regarding free agency, draft, and/or trades?
He needs to go ASAP, IMO!

I’m sorry. There’s simply no possible way this team should be THIS bad, regardless of who is out.
No one has done less with more.
He assembled this team. He drafted these players. They are almost all shite.
Confusing way to put it lol

Fire everybody in management and go hire James Jones. Hand him the entire keychain.

read the words: "Preference". Not condition.
Its not ideal to have 4 coaches in 4 years. I'd prefer to give Willie some time with a competent and healthy roster.
But its not a condition. If a new guy wants his guy, then so be it.

Why? I'm looking at his transaction history LINK and he has a few hits, Hiring Monty and CP3, trading Culver for Cam Johnson and Saric. Everything else in his transaction history looks pretty uninspiring, including blowing a #10 pick on Jalen Smith who seemed like a head scratcher at the time and that they've already given up on.
Also, hiring Monty lead to getting CP3. It's not like they were individual strokes of genius. I just don't see it. Had Griff been smart enough to target CP3 instead of Adams, he'd be the one looking like a genius instead of Jones even though I think we'd all agree Griff would still be the same bad GM we're all ready to fire.

Chances are 99% of us won't know who the guys in FO's are that are up and coming, or mega-agents that want to make the jump executive, etc etc.
My personal preference is:
either the POBO or GM is a guy that is working in a high level FO right now and is an up and commer
And the other (pobo or gm) is a guy that people around the league and players highly, highly respect like a former player that has worked his way up or respected agent/deal maker.

The similarities between David Griffin and Ed Orgeron have become more and more apparent. It is time
Posted on 11/11/21 at 9:29 am to Fun Bunch
The question is, though, does Dennis Lauscha really know who those up-and-comers are?
Posted on 11/11/21 at 9:29 am to TigerinATL
I'd be throwing the biggest bag you can at Bobby Webster in Toronto.
Probably not going to happen for a number of reasons, including he just re-upped and I cant see Gayle, Loomis, and Lauscha trusting a 36 year old and doing what it would take to pry him away, but that's currently my number 1

No, that's what the league resources and professional search firms are for.

David Griffin led the Pels to a national title? And then he made a major hire without interviewing the guy?
I'm sorry, but, though both men have made big mistakes, I think that they have made very different kinds of mistakes.

Hardheadedness? Check
Championship off the back of more talented people? Check
Thinks he knows everything? Check
Will randomly attempt to fight people in public because he feels they disrespected him? Check

The same firms that led us to focusing on basically all retreads last time?
Cause not gonna lie, my confidence is only slightly less low in ownership and Lauscha/Loomis than Griff.
Posted on 11/11/21 at 9:48 am to Bronc
Yeah but what can we do? Ownership are not basketball people so they have to rely on people that are. the alternative is not having a team.
Hire a better search firm this time, and choose a better person from the list they give you.
