Does anyone think the pursuit of Monroe effects the pursuit of Mirotic?

I wouldn't melt if they did the trade, but it's only worth it if Boogie returns at a decent level long term and you can keep at least one of the pieces you get long term for a reasonable price.

You kind of have to assume that he is going to come back at a decent level. If he doesn't, it will be very hard to overcome that, regardless of the moves we make over the next 4 days.
The difference between the likelihood of finding a starter with the 18th pick, or the 32nd pick, isn't that big. Now of course you're more likely to find at least role player with that 18th pick over the 32nd, but does that really matter at this point?

This organization has had a plan to trade draft picks away for quite some time now. it's not going to stop until Demps is gone, maybe.

we have 1 player capable of playing the 4 or the 5, sooooooo no. They could both play 25+ minutes a night easily.

Waiving Allen is not an option until there wont be any other way.

Right now there are multiple options.
No. It is not inside info. Just logic.

I'm all for the Mirotic trade, I suggested it before. I'm not for giving up two 1st round picks without getting a star player back. Trading future picks handicap any future moves. You don't trade the teams future for 2 role players.

I get what you are saying, i really do, but what's the difference between trading them both now, or trading one now, and the other a year from now, both for role players? It's simply what we do.

Future flexibility.

You no longer have that asset in case a much better deal comes along in a year.

The plan will be to send him out in a trade, but if they feel they need to jump on Monroe and get him signed if he’s wavering before a trade can get done, then they can cut Tony. It is technically the easiest way to create a roster spot which is what was asked.

If the Pels trade a first round pick (and dump Asik) for Mirotic it's a good deal.

Trading TWO 1sts would be reckless. What if Kemba isn't moved this year? What if Frank Jackson balls out, once he gets on the court? A trade based around Jackson, Ajinca's expiring, and two 1st would be a great offer. We eliminate the possibility for a trade like this in the future, if we trade away TWO 1st round picks now.

Repeating the same mistake doesn't excuse it.

I'm not convinced Kemba is a good fit here in the long term. When boogie returns, you've got two ball dominant guys that aren't even your best player. Need a facilitator at PG that plays defense.

Kemba was an example I used. Substitute Kemba with any of the following: Kawhi, Lillard, Wall. I was talking about future flexibility, you never know what star might be available in the future. It wouldn't matter if we trade TWO 1sts now, we would have no assets for any future transactions.

i'm with you on that.

I think where we differentiate here, is i think Dinwiddie could be a very good player for us in our future, more so that i'd rather have Mirotic and Dinwiddie over Kemba right now and for the future, and i'm the one that first started the topic a few weeks ago about targeting Kemba.

What would it take to get Dinwiddie though
a 2nd? 2 2nds? a 1st?

He's a good floor general, but he is atrocious shooting. That should level his cost/value some right? Overall, he's better than Rondo though so he could finish games as your final 5.

Has the size to be a decent defender, but he's meh there...(so are we so it works!)

Ajinca+ 2 2nds for Dinwiddie??

I think it might be difficult to get anyone decent with a package of Ajinca/Diallo and not give up a 1st. No one is taking Ajinca without getting a nice pick back.
He might be here until the offseason.

The 2018 pick the Pelicans got in today's trade is their own. It's the third time they've owned it!

Originally New Orleans own
Traded it to Miami and got it back.
Trade it to Chicago and got it back.

Like boomerang!

The opportunity to pay another team $2-5M.

Speaking of which, Ajinca should be dumped on draft night so he still counts on this year's cash considerations allowance. Wait until July or later to dump him and the cash you send is out of next year's allowance which you might need for some other trade.
