The 2020 first gives you pause in that scenario?

Yes. It locks the team (or next GM) out of making moves with a pick for several years if needed. So, it strips future assets for marginal players. I have no trouble including it for players that may be part of the future of the team and potential difference makers.

I like the Mirotic/Dinwiddie and picks deal a lot.
That 2020 pick needs to be protected for something like top 10 though, just in case we collapse.
The Magic 2nd round pick is a good pick. You can find a a contributor there, law of averages you'd hope would swing our way with one of either Diallo, Jackson, or that pick.

Your essentially trading the 1st this year for Mirotic, which everyone seems to be fine with, you're unloading both Asik and Ajinca, and then you are swapping your pick in 2020, which you would hope would be in the low 20 range, for a mid second rounder, and a top 4 second round pick, as well as getting Dinwiddie.

Not sure what is bad about that deal. I think that would be great value for what we are sending out.

If the team gives up two 1st round picks, they need to get a star player back... like Kemba.

I agree, but you can't count your chickens before they're hatched. I suppose the important thing is to have an exit strategy. I don't think it'd be that hard to turn Moore and a 2nd into a cheaper rotation worthy guard like Justin Holiday.

Have to sort of agree here. Giving up 2 first round picks when we've already given up so many would be a hard pill to swallow without getting a significant player in return.

were you alright giving up the 1st and Asik for Mirotic? b/c it seems like everyone was.

What's the big deal giving up a future first, that you have no idea what the protections are on it by the way, for a young player who looks very promising, on a very cheap contract, and getting back 2nd round picks, one of which will likely end up being something like the 32nd pick, and on top of that you get to shed another worthless contract in Ajinca.

Imagine if we had given up 2 1sts for Dwight. Vivek saved us from ourselves.

Help us Michael Jordan, you're our only hope.

I get the math you did and it checks out. But they'd be using 1st round picks, which are supposed to give you long term value and control of players for 7-9 years, to do something where the benefits may be gone after as little as 1.5 years. I wouldn't melt if they did the trade, but it's only worth it if Boogie returns at a decent level long term and you can keep at least one of the pieces you get long term for a reasonable price.

Hopefully the Warriors are at least challenged in the playoffs and we get a 6 or 7 game finals.

wouldn't bet on that in the Finals, but perhaps see a longer series vs GS from Houston or OKC. maybe a shorter Finals again gives the push for 1-16 seeding a boost

doubt the Cavs go 12-1 through the East. conference Finals were 9 combined games. that's a killer.

last year only 7 of the 15 series went more than 5 games. and only 2 went that long after the 1st round.

so this is where those Falk pieces i linked come into play. his mailmain analogy is perfect here.

Pels can keep adding talent for this path and it might make good sense to do so. but this path also just might be a dead end without any off ramps. sometimes you have to go back to go forward.

but if management is telling Demps/Gentry they need to make the playoffs or they are fired, then there is no going back

Also we were willing to give Sacto two firsts.
But his rep helped us.

New Orleans could sign Greg Monroe to the prorated minimum exception and still stay below the tax. Pelicans are $623K below the tax and Monroe as of Saturday would count $565K towards the cap. New Orleans would need to create a roster spot.

Ideally GS gets a second round matchup with OKC or MIN and then a conference finals with HOU which wears them out enough to make a finals with a healthy BOS more of a match.

So what is the easiest way for us to create a roster spot?

Trade Tony Allen and cash to a team under the floor.

Cut Tony Allen. But they probably want to trade him to create some salary breathing room too. Some Thunder blogger was tweeting with Mason about Allen possibly being of interest to them in a fake 2nd trade.

The Pels need to create 2 roster spots and get some more salary room though because they probably want to bring back someone like Liggins.

It's to send out more guys in a trade than we have coming in and that's what Dell is working on

I'm all for the Mirotic trade, I suggested it before. I'm not for giving up two 1st round picks without getting a star player back. Trading future picks handicap any future moves. You don't trade the teams future for 2 role players.

If they are getting Monroe for that cheap, they can ship minimum guys off to any number of teams with their remaining salary + $1M for a fake second if they don’t use the cash in a bigger move like Asik/Anjiica for Mirotic.

I am assuming Marks numbers are accurate and we can just waive Allen for space, but we may want to open up 2 spots. One for Monroe and one for Liggins or another buyout guy.
