So could New Orleans get max cap space for next summer by just trading Hill?
If you don't count cap holds for guys like Niko/Payton/Randle, the answer is yes.
If you dump Solo then AD/Jrue/Moore/Diallo/Jackson/Rookie minimum roster holds = $38 million in cap space. I just can't imagine them taking on a guy like Schroeder when they are so close to the kind of flexibility that lands you a player much better than Schroeder.

Kawhi to the Big Easy next Summer confirmed

There have been plenty of teams that cleared cap space and never landed anyone. If I were the Pels plan A would be to trade for Barnes expecting him to opt out. If you can convince a Butler/Kawhi to come great, if not just resign Barnes.

They covered each other a good bit yesterday and he did just fine against him as far as size goes, and he dind't look smaller or much shorter than him.
I dont' think Blueitt has a big wingspan, but if he's going to do something in the league, it will likely be as a come off the bench scorer.
We didn't sign him b/c he might be able to play SF. We signed him b/c he looks like he might be able to make an NBA roster in the future, and be an asset to us.
And i am going to lose my shite if we trade for that idiot Schroeder.

very few players I actively hate in the league
Schroeder is one of them

I don't want to Pels to put themselves in a position where they can't bring back Randle using cap space (if needed). A Schroeder trade doesn't make any sense for this team.

I don't get the Schroeder hate---especially if we can swap out Hill and Alexis for him.
Also, is it really that hard to find a guy like Andre Roberson to play our 3 position. A long guy who can defend and rebound? That's all we really need at the 3 spot.

Only Schroeder trade I would even consider:
Schroeder and Prince for Ajinca and Hill
And thats only because I love Prince. I would be praying Schroeder gets charged with a Felony so I can veto the contract at that point.

I completely agree.
I'd take on Schroeder's terrible contract and attitude if we got Prince out of it.

WOULD we be able to veto it at that point? I know a lot of NBA contracts have language in it, but I assume the player's union would fight it and try to have us pay out at least a portion, or force us to wait until he is either found Guilty or cops a plea.

Schroeder makes $15 for 3 years, Hill makes $13 for 2 years. Hill's shorter bad contract makes him dumpable next summer. If you trade Hill for Schroeder you're stuck with Schroeder and that closes a lot of potential opportunities that might come your way. Either via trade or clearing cap space next summer the Pels could have a shot at
Kawhi
Butler
Kemba
Lillard
Beal
McCollum
Barnes
Middleton
Porter
Probably about half of that list is out of reach, but crazier things have happened in this league. Houston looks like they may take a step back, if you get AD/Evil Jrue for a whole season maybe they get the 2 seed and become a FA destination. Schroeder isn't worth the opportunity cost his contract brings.

Yeah. Even with Prince I don't know if I would trade for Schroeder.
Prince definitely made the transition last year on a terrible team to a player that would be pretty perfect for us, but the more and more I look at Schroeder as a player and his contract, the more scared I am of that.
I know hope springs eternal with cap space and all that, but I would rather us stay flexible and wait for the RIGHT move, not get saddled with yet another awful contract.

I agree. I would prefer to maintain the flexibility than take on Schroder. Although, I am not sure how easily it will be to dump Hill for nothing next year when all teams are looking to maintain flexibility.

I'd take on the risk to have Prince. I think he's going to be a big time player going forward.
I can't see Atlanta giving him up though. I think they would be stupid to do so.
I could maybe handle taking Schroeder and Bembry and maybe a 2nd rounder for Hill, or just Schroeder if they give us a first. That's how bad i don't want Schroeder, and what i think he's worth. I'd want them to take a bad contract in Hill back, as well as give us some other asset.
Even if we took on Schroeder, assuming we got rid of Hill, i believe we can still create enough cap space to have a max availble. We'd be at around $70M with Schroeder, and no Moore. Not sure if we have a cap hold for Niko or not, but for the right person, you let him go.

It's not just about cap space next summer though, it's also about having tradeable contracts. Trading for Barnes for example is a lot easier with Hill as the biggest salary in the deal than Schroeder. And if you aren't trading Schroeder but no longer have Hill, that probably means including Niko in a deal to get someone like Barnes.
Posted on 7/13/18 at 11:02 am to TeddyPadillac
On a different note, I read that it is likely that the Bulls waive Paul Zipser. I wouldn't mind him for cheap depth, but I'd wager he'll go back to Europe.
Posted on 7/13/18 at 11:04 am to TigerinATL
My point was that i personally would'nt trade for Schroeder unless we get at least Bembry, if not Prince, which would mean you don't really need to go after Barnes in a trade.
I would love the fantasy of trading for Schroeder and Prince somehow, and then somehow signing Barnes in the offseason and having a lineup of
Jrue
Barnes
Prince
Niko
AD
Pretty sure we could hang with the Warriors with that lineup.

Prince is the guy I trade for on 2k the last couple years
Posted on 7/13/18 at 11:51 am to TigerinATL
Lillard did say the player he wants to play with more than anyone else is AD. Just a thought
Posted on 7/13/18 at 11:53 am to CocoLoco
Jrue can't embarrass him in the playoffs if they're on the same team. Would be a smart move by Dame
