Yeah if he signs Wednesday he's not eligible to be traded until after the Deadline.

You can take it a step further and say "he will start so that we can maximize the player that we haven't been able to maximize the last 2 years"

How to maximize our players:

CJ- playing his natural position with a facilitating PG that can also play high level defense

Herb- feast against 2nd units and guarantee we keep our leads, close games with fresh legs.

So instead of going up 10 then down 5 with our bench we can go up 10, up 20, then lock it down at the end of games and spread our talent.

And Herb walks his way to DPOY because he should destroy any backup units he's against. It will force teams to keep starters in and then still have to matchup with him all game.

I think that is last second positioning to see if anyone bites or will buy at cost. All the signs are pointing to Lauri signing or staying.

Utah sent staff to Europe to assist with Lauri/ Keyonte George workouts.

That’s the part y'all are missing from that.
No, I saw the interview. He said that someone that has given as much as he has and is a proven star should not have been disrespected by being moved into a bench role. He did not mention Podz in that interview.

1:06 buddy, he specifically says moving to a bench role for a rookie. That rookie was Podz.

There’s not a chance in hell Herb would get 1st team all defense again much leas DPOY coming off the bench.

Common sense is lacking immensely among some posters.

Yes CJ could play next to Murray as the 2 and he will for a whole bunch of minutes this season. However if Ingram is on this team, CJ is coming off the bench. If Ingram is traded it’s 50/50 on CJ or Trey starting. Herb is not going to the bench.

That's definitely not how a DPOY works.

But also, you think maximizing Herb is done by having him play against backups and not matching his minutes with the other team's best perimeter players?

I agree that if BI is on the team, he's starting.
Trey isn't starting unless CJ and BI are both traded.
I can't imagine Herb coming off the bench. But I also can't imagine CJ coming off the bench either, and if BI is on the team when we start the season I honestly have no idea what they are going to do.

I said he finishes games against the best players.

WE DON'T NEED HERB TO START.
CJ HAS to start.

Both of those statements are true. IDGAF about your personal feelings towards those basketball statements.....

Herb playing backups doesn't = higher block and steal #'s???

Herb still closes games against top players?? What am I missing here?

Again y'all are trying to make some fake chart in your head that says "Herb bench less effective, herb start more effective". The first 10 minutes of the game are the LEAST important minutes we can ask Herb to play all game in the grand scheme of things.

Y'all emotionally breaking down to the thought of Herb coming off the bench proves that y'all still haven't processed this yet.

Herb's least important playing time is a 0-0 score.

Add Murray into the starting lineup as a 2 way player and Herb is the most expendable "starter" in that group. These are facts.

Murray/ CJ/ BI/ Zion will start if on the team.

Whether we roll with Trey/ Herb/ C as a 5th man is a whole different conversation.

No!! It's maximizing our BENCH. It's maximizing our TEAM. Instead of putting out shitty bench lineups just so we can start everyone for a 5 minute stint and make fans smile. Do you know how ridiculous that actually sounds?

Herb is maximized by having fresh legs to close games and maximizing our bench. And Herb can cause b2b turnovers forcing starters to play 40min.

Again y'all just want to start everyone because it looks nice and makes you feel good.

I don’t care how you frame it, Herb is not expendable. This team’s defense will drop off astronomically without him. He is still underrated by people it seems. And he’s getting better every year on offense along with defense.

This exact response and lack of complete understanding of rotations is the issue.

"This team's defense will drop off astronomically without him"

So ridiculously pessimistic and dramatic our fans are.....

All this while y'all literally cant imagine this team with Murray and still are RELYING on Herb as our savior.

Holy shite. From this EXACT way I explained it compared to other current starters YES he is.

Again, as I stated earlier in this thread, it has already been said Herb is starting next to Murray. That much was made clear at the introductory PC.

Name me the last DPOY that was a bench player.

Hell, just name me the last All Defensive Team guy that was a bench player.

The fact is bench guys don’t win those awards.

Yes he does lol. We got Murray to pair with CJ and Zion so that CJ can play off ball....

Anyone with a functioning brain can understand that point.

Furthermore:

1. We cannot play Hawk/ CJ together
2. We do not have to play CJ at PG at all
3. We are wasting Murray/ Jose with any other lineup

For someone who couldn't even admit when CJ had bad games I sure am surprised you think he should go to the bench.

The person who knows CJ better than anyone and knows better than anyone how we can maximize him thinks he should be on the bench....

Its a very unusual situation we are in. Its not often you can even argue "benching" a possible DPOY.

Obviously things would be easier if we didn't have BI but we do have (4) starters ranked above Herb not including a Center.

If we start with Zion at 5 then Herb starts. If we trade BI then Herb starts. Herb does not start OVER Murray/ BI/ CJ/ Zion.

The first quarter is very important. I can argue that first 10 minutes is more important than every part of the game besides the literal end of the game.

Will i agree it's helpful to have CJ play offball, i'm pretty sure the team is a lot more excited about a Murray/Herb back court, not a Murray/CJ backcourt.

quote:

1. We cannot play Hawk/ CJ together

I agree whole heartedly there. Was hoping Hawk would make the jump so he could take the place of CJ's shooting and do it off the bench, but I think that might be a wishful thinking.
There's a good chance Hawkins doesn't get as many minutes as most would like this year.

quote:

2. We do not have to play CJ at PG at all

Well he's not a PG.

Herb coming off the bench doesn't help the bench.
CJ coming off the bench helps the bench tremendously, and also means he's not in the game as much against superior offensive players that will take advantage of his woeful defense, and also means he's going up against lesser defenders more.

And I'll say it again, i'd bet money CJ will start, even though I don't think he should.
assuming we move BI, Trey starting and CJ coming off the bench is better for the team. Trey being the 3rd offensive guy is perfect for him, which is what he would be as a starter. CJ coming off the bench means he'll be the #2 at times, which he is better suited for than Trey.
It really shouldn't matter, b/c Murray/Herb/Trey/CJ are all going to play 30+ mninutes, but you should know better that it matters who starts to those guys.
