Sure but is he worth Hawkins AND a first? Seems like an overpay.

Players like hawkins are just not that valuable. Look at Gary Trent. That would be a pretty good outcome for Hawk and Trent just signed a minimum deal. Same for a guy like Malik Beasely.

Feels like good value to me.

Kessler is definitely worth more than a 1st in the back half of a draft.

Hawkins likely has little value, very late 1st at best, so this seems to make sense.

I get that. I’m not sure what Hawkins is or isn’t yet. My thing is I just don’t think Kessler is worth that much. If I’m giving up that much for a big I prefer him not having the flaws Kessler has.

I doubt he's worth a 1st. It's the whole reason I hated the pick. If you can get a guy like gary trent on the minimum why would a team give a 1st for Hawk?

Did you actually watch the games?

Trey scored fairly well in game 1 with 21, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks but it took him 18 attempts to get there. BI shot poorly in this game, but had 6 boards and 3 assists. Trey was better in game 1, but it wasn't by much

Game 2: BI had 18 on 10 shots to Trey's 8 on 8 shots in 44 minutes (repeat: 8 shots in 44 minutes).

Game 3: BI with 19 on 14 shots to Trey with 10 on 12 shots

Game 4: They both sucked. BI had 8 on 14 and Trey had 7 on 10.

Add in the fact the entire defense was built around stopping BI and it should have opened some holes for other players to attack, but neither CJ nor Trey filled the void.

If we can bring in Kessler and keep BI, this team is likely outside the lottery. A late first and a project is fair. I just can't imagine Hawkins having much value at all with the way he is playing in the Summer League.

They both equally played bad.
JV was the only one who actually did a damn thing.

I can give Ingram the benefit of the doubt, coming back from injury, not 100%, and being asked to do everything offensively.

My issue with Trey is honestly the fact he takes these deep 3's so often that it becomes detrimental to the team. he's a role player, he's not the #2 guy to a Zion (that should 100% be Murray).

All things considered, this is what we lost:
JV: 23.5 MPG, 8.8 FGA, 8.8 RPG
Daniels: 22.3 MPG, 5.1 FGA, 3.9 RPG
Nance: 19.9 MPG, 4.0 FGA, 5.0 RPG
Marshall: 19.0 MPG, 5.6 FGA, 3.6 RPG
Total: 84.7 MPG, 23.5 FGA, 21.3 RPG

Assume Murray will eat 33 MPG, 16 FGA, and 6 RPG that'll still leave you missing: 51.7 MPG, 7.5 FGA, and 15.3 RPG.

Theis gave LAC 17.1 MPG, 4.9 FGA, and 4.1 RPG

That'll be 34.6 MPG, 2.6 FGA, and 11.2 RPG missing.

I can assume Karlo/Missi will give you another 10-20 minutes and make up the FGA easily. But will they give you the RPG or will everyone else uptick (Zion from 5.8, Trey from 4.9, Ingram from 5.1).

So let me get this straight your whole argument of playoff BI being MUCH better than playoff Trey is based off BI playing better in games 2 and 3- obviously games we still lost? Because by your admission, Trey was better in game 1 and game 4 both cancelled each other out. Considering the offense is built around playoff BI- is this really even a fair comparison? So technically BI was better in ONE more game in a sweep than Trey despite the offense revolving around BI.

Sure but the whole offense is built around BI- you know your star of the team. And are you trying to blame BIs bad performance on CJ/Trey missing shots and a playoff team trying to stop our best player? Not sure if you are- I’m asking because why else bring it up unless you’re trying to defend his lackluster performance?

Im not totally against this but I just don’t think Kessler is worth this with his flaws. Last year, I was told not to consider summer league in regards to Hawkins; now people are stating he has little to no value after this summer league performance despite him playing well when he was actively in a NBA rotation. Just interesting how perspectives change.

He played in 36 of their first 37 games after he was traded to the Clippers, averaging 17mpg.
They realized he wasn't any good, even though they didn't ahve a backup 5, and he only played in 23 of the next 41 games for them getting healthy DNP's, and 8 of those 23 games he played mostly garbage time and had less than 10 minutes.

He fell out of the rotation in Indy as well, behind Turner and Jalen Smith, was getting healthy DNP's over there.

Theis getting regular minutes on our team isn't a good thing.
Missi looks pretty terrible, albeit it's just the summer league. I doubt he plays at all.

It's looking like Karlo or Zion will be the starting 5, and Zion/Trey/BI are goign to play a lot of minutes at the 4/5 until we bring in a competent big.

At this point i'd want Zion starting at the 5, and let Karlo play against backups more, as i think he's goign to find a niche in this league as a good backup 5. Give him a few minutes against the starting center each game and see if he can handle it more and more each game but i think he can be a positive contributor for us against backups. I don't think he'll help us at all as a starter.

His main job is to be a shooter and to space the floor. As a rookie, what else did you expect of him when he was in the lineup? And we’re ready to trade him without even seeing what he has in second season because Griff fricked up the whole BI situation and left us without a center?

47 win playin team who was healthy, added no one this offseason.
Really stupid to not put at the bare minimum a top 4 protection on that pick, especially considering this draft is expected to be really good.

I don’t think we get Dejounte if we put the protection. Unprotected was a big deal especially since they weren’t getting Herb.

That's because Griff is an idiot.
just b/c the Hawks were stupid to not have any protections on their 25 and 27 picks to SAS, doesn't mean we have to make the same mistake. ATL didn't think they would be bad, so they didn't care.
That's no different than us trading our own 25 or 26 1st with no protections. Not a big deal b/c it's highly unlikley we're in the lottery, and if we are, it's as the last team or so in it.
Saying lottery protected is a big deal as a protection, and i could see them balking at that. Top 4 though, that's a reasonable thing to ask for, and at worst you could at least say top 1.

You want it unprotected, then at least get back some 2nd round picks.

Our GM isn't good.

In reality, we cannot get a guy like Trent at a league minimum. He only took that to play with Lillard. He reportedly turned down multi-year offers for significant portions of the MLE.
