I’m not sure why a Pelicans fan feels the need to work so hard at down playing their own team, but their record was literally tied for 6th best in the west. 2nd all time. It’s a weird flex to quote someone discussing team chemistry by mentioning team records, especially when it’s the closest team we’ve had to that exact thing.

Because I live in reality. Officially according to the NBA they were the 8 seed entering the playoffs. You’re just looking at regular season wins and completely ignoring the seeding. Thats not reality. This last team is not the closest to that CP3 team- weird how a pelicans fan forgets that AD, Jrue and Rondo team making the second round?

Ironic coming from a guy who has said trading BI would be addition by subtraction.

No offense but anything you say of BI- is straight homerism and can’t be taken seriously. You defend him like hes your first born child and people on this board know it. The attachment you have to him is really unnatural.

What team chemistry? We let go of JV, Naji and traded Dyson and Larry. You’re acting like BI, CJ and Zion have some sort of contending team chemistry.

I was going to say, but left it out, that if the relationship with BI and ZIon isn't all that great, which i have no idea if it is or not, then it's not a big deal to make the move that might not look like we got back equal value.

Team chemistry matters to the guys that actually matter. Zion, BI, CJ, Herb, Trey, now Murray. Everyone else is just along for the ride and know they can be traded at anytime.

quote:

Records matter in this situation. That CP3 team was a contender- this one was not.

whatever. you're trying to make this the only point that matters when it has very little to do with what i'm talking about.

Because you’re automatically assuming trading BI makes you worse.

good lord man, that's the point of this fricking exercise! IF, IF, IF, IF trading BI makes you worse. That's the fricking scenario i'm talking about. Good Lord! This entire scenario of making a trade to save money goes out the window if we get back percieved equal or fair value in the trade.

quote:

The sixers traded away Harden, who led the league in assists and they got better because it created an opportunity for Maxey

Maxey is an all-star who was ready to take that next step. He filled in what Harden was doing, and did it better for that team. Herb and Trey don't fill in what BI does. Murray does though.

The fact that we got Murray without giving up BI is a big deal, and if we see that he's the real deal and needs the ball to make us better, then letting BI walk potentially, or even trading him simply to dump him mid season becomes an obvious reality, especially if it allows us to upgrade other positions of need.
Trading BI to percieveable be worse right now isn't a good look, even if the trade doesn't actually make us worse once the season get's going.
Trading BI after seeing how this current team performs to start this year for that same percievable worse trade doesn't look bad anymore when done mid season if it's obvious BI needs to be traded at that point.

I just think players wont care as much or at all if you’re a better team. The NBA is a business- I think most players understand this. You think Trey Murphy will care if BI is gone? He gets more minutes and maybe a starting role. Same for CJ. I think Zion could care less. What players do you think will be affected by this?

quote:

whatever. you're trying to make this the only point that matters when it has very little to do with what i'm talking about.

Im not. You brought up this point to emphasize the impact of trading BI. I just think it was unnecessary because its not remotely the same.

I agree. But I also think that doing it mid season once it's obvious the fit isn't there is a much better look thatn before the season starts.

We don't know the relationship BI has with everyone though. Maybe some of the guys wouldn't care if he was traded for whatever.

quote:

again, we have no idea what their relationship is like, but i kind think Zion wouldn't care if BI was traded or they let him walk as well.
Trey isn't starting if BI is traded. Trey's minutes won't change if BI is on this team or not. He's playing 30+ minutes a night regardless, and his role doesn't change with or without BI. He's not going to be our 2nd leading scorer without BI, and he probably still wouldn't be the 3rd leading scorer either. Trey starts when BI AND CJ aren't on this team anymore.

I don’t think its wise to sacrifice wins just to have a “better look” in regards to trading him. This whole season shouldn’t devolve into if/when BI should be traded- I think that will screw up your team and likely your season.

We WANT Trey to play 30 plus minutes every night but if BI is on this roster and with Willie as coach- I don’t think that will happen. If anything its highly unrealistic to think that will happen with our current roster and coach. If BI leaves, I think Trey will get more minutes and opportunities. I’m not sure how you think his minutes wont change if BI is gone?

We're a playoff team. Doesn't matter if we start off 25-15 or 20-20, once you make the trade to be better, it's how you finish. Doesn't matter if we are a 7th seed or 4th seed either. If you're getting better by the end of the season and you're better than your record says, then you're ready for the playoffs.

My man, Trey is playing 30+ minutes with this current roster. He played the 4th most minutes this past season at 31mpg, more than starter Herb. Naji and Dyson were playing 40mpg combined, and we only replaced them with Murray.

It's highly unrealistic to think he won't play 30+ minutes with the current roster.

quote:

I’m not sure how you think his minutes wont change if BI is gone?

haha ok. So what do you think is going to happen? He'll play 40mpg or somethign if BI leaves?
BI leaves and it mean more minutes more than likely to a center, and to role players. Trey is playing 30-35 minutes no matter what.

YOU want Trey to play more minutes and start. I want Trey to earn that, which he hasn't.

2024 Playoff BI >>> 2024 Playoff Trey

I’m sorry you’re telling me getting homecourt for the playoffs doesn’t matter for THIS team? 7th seed means you’re play-in which means you may not even make the playoffs. You’re tossing wins aside in the west like its no big deal. We may not be a a playoff team if this team doesn’t get out to a good start.

Dejounte takes up those minutes by Naji and Dyson agreed. Murphy last year averaged under 30 minutes a game. He averaged 31 the year before mainly when Zion was hurt. He averaged 26.5 off the bench last year. You need to go back and check this you’re off on this.

Yes he will take BI’s minutes which is the point.

Trey as a starter is a net positive with almost everyone on the team especially Zion.

2024 playoff BI was a nonexistent bum.

If we’re no better- you’re free of BI contract. Which is great.

If you’re worse- you’re in the lottery for
cooper flagg in a pretty decent draft plus Willie is gone as well.

I mean if we’re keeping BI without a legit center- do you really believe this is a title contending team?

I simply have a different opinion on playoff basketball. I don't care what seed I am, or if we are playing home or away. If you're the better team, you'll win the series. If you finish the season and you're the 6th seed, but the last 45 games after a trade is made you're sitting at a 55 pace win team and you're top 6 in ORtg and DRtg, are you really a 6th seed?

You're right, i was looking at the previous year.
Trey started the season playing just 27mpg his first 20 games. He was coming back from injury so there were plenty games were he played around 22 minutes early on.
He's going to play 30mpg this year, with BI.

quote:

Yes he will take BI’s minutes which is the point.

He's not playing 40mpg silly. If he gets a bump, it would be from 30-31 to 32-33.

If BI is on this team, that means we are playing a lot of small ball minutes with Trey/BI/Zion playing the 4 and 5. That's why he's going to play 30+mpg with BI.

Yes you just finished the season hot but you’re still a 6th seed. I get it you’re looking at the Mavs but yes they were still a 5th seed even though they made the finals. They also got the right matchups. At the end of the day, matchups are probably most important but you can’t control that. What you can control is your record and getting the best seed possible.

quote:

He hasn’t done this on a regular basis even when healthy off the bench when Zion and BI are healthy. Especially with Willie, I don’t trust this will happen if BI is on the team.

Hes taking BIs minutes whether its 30 or 40. BI himself only averaged 33 minutes last season silly.
