Then give them the better pick of the Milwaukee/pelicans pick in 27.
Flagg looks so good that he is someone you can't afford to miss if you had the chance.

You guys do realize the Hawks know this as well and why they probably demanded the pick unprotected. Griff ain’t the best gms but they might have said Herb or unprotected lakers pick.

Then walk away and leave them in despair. Figure it out elsewhere.
I'm excited about Murray, but that pick is hella valuable.

It’s valuable if it conveys to No.1
The chances of that are so low… and 14% at best!
This is ‘bird in the hand stuff’ … DJM or 14% chance of No.1 on the assumption the Lakers are one of the worst 3 teams that year.

agree completely.
I'm excited about his as well, but at the very least a top 1 protection would have suffice. If they somehow end up calling it quits this year and do terrible, which has a decent chance of happening, and somehow win the lottery to get the #1 pick, if Griff hadn't been fired yet then that would be the day he'd be fired.

I mean this is exactly what we said about the lakers wemby pick that basically turned into Dyson. Of course Griff should have had better protections on the pick but at some point you have to cash in your chips for an all star player rather keep hoping lakers will crash and burn and land us Cooper Flagg.

Exactly. I hate the lakers but reality is they will do everything humanly possible to make sure they’re in the playoffs.

Why would Lakers do this? Like what incentive would they have to do this? This just doesn’t make any logical sense for them to call it “quits.” Why do you think there is a decent chance of this happening?

Lakers won’t be worse than Washington, Detroit, Brooklyn, or Portland at a minimum.
There are a lot of historically bad teams right now and others like Chicago and Utah potentially tank to keep their picks if they stay in the top 10.
Lakers may not make the playoffs but they won’t be in the toilet unless both AD and Lebron miss most of the season.

because lebron is 40 years old, and his team sucks. He gets hurt and they're a bottom 12 team in the league. He's missed 30+ games in 3 of the last 4 years. The west got better. They did not. I'd bet most honest sites will put out predictions and the Lakers won't be a top 8 team in the west, even with good health.

Lebron’s age should matter but it doesn’t. I hate advocating for the lakers but facts are they have had a winning record in 4 of the past 5 years and even if they regress- they’re not regressing to the point of getting Cooper Flagg. And did the west get better? Thunder and maybe Mavs. But clips, nuggets, warriors all got worse. I WANT the lakers to suck but reality they’re not going to suck enough for us to worry about protecting the lakers pick.

Haha they aren’t finishing ahead of the Nuggets, and probably not Clips either.
Grizzlies got better.
Kings got better.
We got better.
Houston will be better.
Warriors still have an opportunity to get better.
Hell the Spurs might actually be kind of good.
If they are healthy, big if, they’ll be lucky to finish 8th.

DK has Lakers O/U at 44.5.

Yeah I still don’t see how you think they’ll call it quits and be a bad lottery team with a chance to get Flagg. You’re kind of going off the whole lottery protection point. The point was that protection really isn’t as important as you’re implying it is.

Yeah, lakers might not be amazing but they’ll be better than the likes of Detroit, Portland, Washington etc. Also a team led by old Lebron most certainly won’t actively tank

Yeah, Lebron will leave everything he has on the floor this season.
His first season playing with his son, about to hit 40.
He knows this is likely his last chance ever at competing for a title, and he will leave it all out there this year then coast the rest of his career

Bank on lebron pushing them to make a move on a disgruntled star. I'm rather chocked dlo doesn't have more value.
A 18/3/6 pg who shoots 40+% from 3 over the past 2 years. While only making 18mil?

i'm not saying they Lakers are going to tank and be on par with Detroit and Brooklyn.
It's very possible they end up with the 10th worst record in the league, and what i'm saying is if there's 15 games left in the season and they have next to no shot at the play-in, then Lebron and AD will quit playing, and a team that was maybe 12th or 13th worst, ends up being 8th or 9th worst.
We just saw the 10th worst record team with a 3% chance get the #1 pick. We had a 6% chance we won the lottery. The Rockets pick this year from Brooklyn that was 3rd overall was from the 9th worst record. The 7th worst record in 2022 and in 2021 made it into the top 4.
I'm also not saying it's likely it ends up as a top 4 pick. There's a slim chance, but there is a chance and it's not unreasonable.
