And I don't think that BI can be stretched in his final season. So if he gets a serious injury early in the season, then we're in a really bad spot for avoiding the tax.
If we don't deal BI, Kessler really does make a ton of sense. A legit, solid starting 5 that doesn't cost much for the next 2 seasons. PT is adamant that we get something for BI right now, but if we trade for Kessler, we can go into this season with one of the most talented and deepest teams in the league. We'll almost always have 3 of Murray/Herb/CJ/BI/Trey/Zion on the court at a given time. That's going to be a playoff team, and you give BI a chance to rehab his image, opening up potential sign and trade opportunities next offseason. Options would be limited, but I'm sure that the S&T could get us back below the tax.
ETA: Sorry, you posted pretty much the same scenario while I was typing that up.

We were a playoff team last year. The real question is do you think that this team would be title contenders? I don’t think Gayle goes into the tax for just a playoff team.

Probably not, but it would be a better/deeper version of those Portland/MEMPIS teams that everyone knew would make the playoffs every year, but probably not make it past the 2nd round. We'd have a chance to see how a more seasoned BI/Zion play with a proper point guard (RIP in peace Lonzo).

Send BI for Kessler and Collins, no picks. Not the best return but cut your losses and realize you waited a year to late to trade him.
Sign Theis or Reed to a minimum
Sign Hayward to BAE
Sign Tyus to MLE

I know everyone hates it because you’re selling Ingram cheap, but you’re getting your starting center and backup 4/5 while saving money to get a top tier backup PG. Not a perfect trade but it’s also not giving BI away

Yup I agree. I think thats where we would be considering if things work out- injuries, coaching and chemistry. What sucks is- its a one year shot because affordability wise they can’t keep all of them. Which is a hard to sell for Griffin to make to Gayle to get into the tax for.

Gotta ask yourself now which we can't because Willie doesn't play fricking young players until he's forced.
When you compare Ingram to Murphy and McCollum to Hawkins, who is more likely to get closer to their starting counterpart?
Why I ask is because you have to wonder that's who (if not both) that you move on from. If Hawkins can be McCollum, we can move on from him to keep Ingram. If murphy can be Ingram, we move on from him and keep McCollum. Ultimately the answer should be both, but that's saying Murray will be the #2 unless murphy or Hawkins declares themselves

I think that's a bit of a stretch just because he didn't play Hawk a ton last season.
Herb, Trey, Naji, Jose, Dyson all got plenty of run under Willie in their rookie seasons.

Honestly don't think all minutes were created equal
Lots of those minutes came when it's not with the top 7 guys. But rather because of injury.
Hell what posses me off is the hellbent attitude to keep playing starters where you have minutes left, other team emptied it, and you still have z or Ingram oit there. Stupid.

Hawk played in more games and averaged more minutes in his rookie season than Trey did. Though Trey did play more towards the end of his rookie season than Hawk did.

You guys aren’t wrong but I think a better way to look at it is when the team is fully healthy how often does Willie play the younger players or rookies. Yes Hawk played a lot of minutes early on but remember CJ and Trey got hurt and we desperately needed some floor spacing. As soon as the team got healthy- Hawkins disappeared. Trey played at the end if his rookie year/playoffs but this was months after we got tired of seeing Garrett Temple. The only reason Jose got his shot was because we literally had 0 point guards after Kira got hurt. Despite Dyson being defensively great this season- we never saw him in the playoffs(i know Dyson is not a rookie but counting him as a young player). Herb Jones to me is the only player from the start of his rookie year who has had substantial minutes. I’m not saying Willie is right or wrong. But it seems like Willie will play rookies only when he has no other choice due to injuries unless your name is Herb Jones.

Why would the Jazz want Ingram? They just drafted two wings in the top 10 the past two drafts. Supposedly the Warriors have just hit them with a huge package for Markkanen, that possibly includes Kuminga and Wiggins (plus picks). I don't see them going after or needing Wiggins..
