I get we’re waiting on the Ingram trade but can someone explain Griff’s thinking in filling the rest of the roster spots. I mean wouldn’t it be smart to at least sign a backup center when free agency had started or some other depth pieces?
Not really understanding the thought process in not doing that and the free agency cupboard is pretty dry.
I mean even last year by this time we had signed Cody Zeller.

Tyus is better than Jose. End of story

Huerter makes zero sense for us, if we make the trade with Sacramento, we should 100% re-route Huerter to Orlando for WCJ. Barnes on the other hand could be a good backup to Zion.
ETA: Tyus isn’t a bad player, I’d just rather spend money on 2 centers and a backup forward. Jose is fine for what he is and only costs 2 mill. It’s nice to get production out of some “cheap” players on your roster, and I fully expect DJ to play 35-36 minutes in the regular season and probably more in the playoffs
On the same page for the most part.
Would love both WCJ and Kessler. If we do that then we have:
Zion/ WCJ/ JRE/ maybe vet min?
Kessler/WCJ/ Missi/
If we do this then I think we end up with Tyus and I want Tyus in this scenario.
If Kessler is not available and we only have WCJ then Barnes makes more sense > Tyus. Maybe add Reed.
I think we end up with (2) of WCJ/ Tyus/ Barnes
Kessler availability may decide on who the 1-2 guys are.
In no scenario does Huerter or any other "shooter" make sense.
If we add a "shooter" it should be the 41% starting PG to run our 2nd unit with Hawk/ Herb until CJ is traded/ walks.
Tyus
Hawk
Herb
Could be a nasty trio playing together to pair with Murray/ Trey/ Zion for the next 4+ years. Add a young center and we are an actual contender.

If you make JV and Naji S&Ts you have enough outgoing salary to add Capela or WCJ to the Murray trades. You guys need to just settle in. When nothing gets added to the Murray trade and Griff panics and does the equivalent of trading a 1st to sign Devonte Graham, then you can worry.

Thats one center. You’re ok with a raw guy like Missi being your No. 2 this season? Elevating JRE/Matkovic? There really isn’t that much depth. Getting one starting center doesn’t alleviate that at all.
To top it off even though I like Capela and WCJ- they are constantly hurt.

Yes we could technically:
Take back WCJ with Val + Naji S&T
Take back Kessler with Kira MLE
37mil BI exception?
"Technically" could fit both Barnes and Tyus into that salary.
If we wanted to.

Then next year you have the: Hawk vs CJ discussion.
Can they both stay?
Are they both sub par and need to be packaged out?
Move CJ or both to get salary back.
Or if things are going well we shouldn't have to.

Bro lets just stay on this year. We haven’t even traded BI yet.

Kessler makes a ton of sense as an additional acquisition, and with Trajan in Detroit I wouldn't be surprised if Griff has a few other contingencies set up.
Let's say Capela and Kessler are the first choices, but Kessler can't happen until Lauri is settled. If you can't do Kessler maybe Capella is no longer your first choice for money reasons. If you lock in any of choices C-E now, you can't afford Capela, if you commit to Capela now and don't get Kessler, you can't pivot to something like WCJ and Duren/Stewart.
I don't know what's going on, but with Griff's history of complicated trades I assume its something like that and he has contingencies on contingencies. He had to be told no by about 5 guards IIRC to get down to trading for Devonte Graham. The difference between then and now is he was aiming too high. A lot of the names we've seen should be pretty gettable.

There's nothing left out there so we're just to have to trust that what ever trades Griffin is cooking will bring back multiple bigs. There's nothing else to over analyze at this point.

No.
It's all connected.. That's kinda my point. I'm getting arguments about Tyus vs Jose's current contract and "fan impact" while taking a 3-4 year plan into perspective.
Every move is setting up another move. You are pretty much saying "ignore the future of our 30y/o SG with 2 years left because I don't want to process that far ahead".
While also ignoring the fact that our current moves are already planning for those moves...

If tweet fails to load, click here. Ummm, Cam for sure would be worth it. Lakers are showing they’re not worried about now and are focused on post Lebron/AD already.
Either that or Buss is broke

Ehh is he a contender level difference maker that will outweigh the already building backlash of the Laker's current state?
I'd have to say no respectfully.

This is stacking up to be a similar situation to the year with the Adams trade. Spending a ton of time to complete a confusing trade, meanwhile, a lot of nice depth has come off the board. It didn’t end well for us a couple years ago and we entered the season with major holes. Hopefully Griffin can actually finish what he started this offseason.

Yeah but you need to slow down. We have no idea what Hawk is. CJ played very well last season. Lot of decisions are made when players actually go out and play. CJ becomes expendable maybe if Hawk’s growth is accelerated and he progresses as planned. You’re trying to answer questions which you don’t have the data to get an answer on yet.
By the way all these decisions depend on how the team performs next season- a huge aspect to everything. To me planning 4 years is silly if your centerpiece Zion can’t stay healthy. You think about that stuff but you don’t overplan either until you have an idea of what this team is when they go out and play.

Jake Fischer says both that Sacramento got close to landing Lauri, and that Ainge isn't serious and prefers to keep Lauri but was seeing if he could pull in an offer he couldn't refuse like Brooklyn got with Bridges.
