pels have lonzo for one more year on his rookie deal.
I would say it’s 50/50 (or worse) that they offer an extension. If they don’t, and he gets a big RFA offer sheet, he is gone.
I like the dude and he’s clearly a passing savant. His defense doesn’t move the needle and despite the occasional hot night from three he’s a non shooter. That’s not the PG any team building around another non shooter and suspect defender can afford

Heres why I hope we make the playoffs..
I have a feeling in big games that his defense tightens up quite a bit

His passing weaponizes Zion in a way very few other guards could though. I think you have to keep him and hope he fills the other holes in his game.

Why don’t you post February’s shooting %’s?
Posted on 2/28/20 at 7:27 pm to cgrand
I mean I think Earl and some of the other pumpers go way too far in their sensitivity to Lonzo criticism.
But he is shooting 40% on open catch and shoot threes. His biggest issue is shot selection.
And typically, as a players jumper improves their FT% will follow. I suspect that will be the case here as well.
And assuming he doesn’t draw a max, I think he has demonstrated the sort of growth that indicates to me he will be a really solid player for years to come. He clearly has a great chemistry with Zion and Ingram and as long as he can his those open threes and move the ball well, he makes a lot of sense long term.

Man if NBA fans viewed assists like they do in the NHL Lonzo’s popularity would skyrocket. Watching Zion get easy buckets from Lonzos passing is a thing beauty

Why? He’s fixed his shooting quicker than I ever expected. Add a floater and improve his on ball defense in the offseason, which isn’t bad now, and he’s pretty damned good.

Can you name the players in NBA history, who from their age 21 to age 22 seasons, increased their 3P% by at least 3.7% (minimum 5 attempt average) and their FT% by at least 14.9% ? Give me the list
Posted on 2/28/20 at 9:08 pm to GynoSandberg
Lol, why dont you make your own list.
Lonzo’s stats this year are what they are. Similar to his career stats.
He’s a great passer though, and the point of the post is legitimate, but exaggerated alittle. His passing gives him value that wont disappear.
Zo def opens up the floor for all three of jrue/ingram/zion. He’s proven that we should keep him if we can.

It's really not about Lonzo, it's about what he does for the others. We can find another guard with his offense/defense, we can't find another guard with his passing ability from 94 feet and in.

Lonzo, Bi, and Hart are so much more than I expected. It’s such a fun team.

Poor p Bean, Celtic dog and bronco

Since Ball permanently moved into the New Orleans starting lineup Dec. 23, the Pelicans rank fifth in the NBA in offensive efficiency (114.6 points per 100 possessions), second in assist percentage (66.0) and first in three-point percentage (39.1). Over those two-plus months, New Orleans has six players averaging double-digit scoring – including Ball himself at 12.6 points – as well as a whopping nine players putting up at least 8.3 ppg
quote:
The Pelicans have gone 20-11 since losing 13 games in a row. Ball has played in all 31 of those games. During that stretch, he is averaging 12.6 points, 7 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 38.4% from 3 on 6.5 attempts per game. Since Dec. 18, he is averaging the second-most passes (73.5) and sixth-most touches (91.2) per game league-wide, according to NBA.com tracking data....
The Pelicans are second in assist percentage since Williamson returned to the lineup Jan. 22.
“That’s the great part about Lonzo," Williamson said. "He shows his IQ for the game. For him to come in every game with the threats that we have and facilitate the offense the way he does, you’ve got to respect it.”
quote:
Jrue Holiday, asked to describe Lonzo Ball's style: "He’s more like a traditional (point guard), but mixed with a new era. The passes he makes are tough passes. The way he plays is like a quarterback, but he can also score, get into the paint. He does a little bit of everything."
quote:
Alvin Gentry on Lonzo Ball: "I’ve been a fan of Zo since he came in the league. I just think playing in a system like we’ve got was going to enhance his game, and give him the opportunity to be who he really is."
quote:
"If Lonzo Ball is not up for Most Improved Player in the NBA this year then, apparently, nobody has cable."
@NancyLieberman drops knowledge on Lonzo's improvement this season.

no doubt
and last night was his best game of the year while only making one shot. The question before the team is, after next year (and depending on who they draft), what is that worth, both in salary/years commitment and opportunity cost?

Earlier in the season Zo was getting acclimated to a new team, was injured, and of course the entire team was decimated by injuries, so it's fair to see how he's improved as the season has gone on to gauge his play.
Over the past 26 games, Zo is 13/9/8 on 42%/39%/65% shooting.

These dudes have been shitting on ball since before the trade even went down. There were two camps
1- a 21/22 year old is flawed, but has flashed from his time at UCLA til present. Injuries and his prior role stunted growth. Let’s see what happens
2 - guy sucks, worst player ever, can’t get better, his dad will be a problem, trade his for whatever we can get
#2 deserves ridicule. And they’re still trying to find reasons to pick apart his game
