He will not be canned. He will transition into an ambassador’s role after the season.

Y’all need to be patient.

I’m with you, jester.

The Uncle Al apologists are absolutely unbearable.

Pretty damning. Al has always been in way over his head.

"JJ's going to play dead. The defense wont know how to react. Lonzo will throw him the ball. Favors spots up in the corner and JJ rolls him the ball for the tying 3. Remember, if you count to five in your head and you've not inbounded the ball, call a timeout!"

If anyone has caught some of the Griffin interviews this season, the only time he really seems to break from PR character is when it comes to coaching.

He’s mentioned guys not being prepared, the defense looking like shite, that he doesn’t want to hear it from the coaching staff if they don’t like how Zion is being load managed in terms of minutes/metrics. Him being completely apathetic to Gentry getting kicked out of a game. Just the general non-committal language he uses.

I honestly don’t think Gentry is here next season barring some miracle run. The only thing I do worry about is if we end up losing coaches like Fred Vinson in the process. There isn’t a price I would pay to keep him on the roster to continue helping our young core improve their shooting.

Yeah, I have caught a bit of that myself -- evidence of some tension, for sure. I don't think that it's dispositive.

This will get some downvotes, but Gentry has done some good things this year. He's helped Ingram and Ball to play to new heights. The team didn't quit on him during the losing streak, and he's helped maintain a united locker room apparently free of any conflict.

I agree that Gentry is not a good in-game coach, but that's only part of the job.

My view continues to be what it has been: Gentry isn't a great coach, but he's also not nearly as bad as this board thinks.

We’ll see. I don’t think Griffin is as married to Gentry as some worry.

To be clear though, I’ve said before that I think Gentry is ultimately, in the grand scheme of things, an average to slightly above average coach. One that if he is given the right set of circumstances and tools can be successful. But he is not someone that adjusts easy to disruption, struggles when a team can’t play his ideal form of basketball, and is a fairly poor in-game manager. He does seem to manage players well, though in a way that is mostly by keeping things laid back and non-confrontational. Which I think creates habitual problems with how much he asks of his teams out the gate every season.

I wouldn’t really put Ingram’s growth on Gentry though, he seems to mostly credit his work with Vinson and other developmental guys. But Gentry does some credit for being the person hiring/retaining that team, so through another lens that is certainly fair.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Gentry is given more time to develop figure out how this roster. That’s probably fair.
