I agree. Hiring Ferry in a time when the team is touting change just does not seem to get it done. It would look like the same old Pelicans taking the easy way out.

And judging from comments I think they know that.

I think they want to give Ferry the courtesy of being a candidate, and if he blows their balls off, ok sure, give him the job.

But otherwise it is just a courtesy.

Ferry may taste a bit stale but i think people are underrating his impact on this franchise when he came aboard.

Agreed, Ferry has had a great impact on us thus far, and did a great job of building ATL into a contender before getting fired for non-basketball related reasons. Idc what it LOOKS like, dude is a legit GM.

He’s definitely the boom or bust choice. He’s either a visionary choice that people proclaim as a stroke of a genius in a few years, or he’s so inexperienced and in over his head it’s a total disaster.

I have no problem with swinging for the fences if he has the best binder. But man is it a risk.

This won't happen since it seems like the Pels wanna hire a POBO/GM And not a POBO AND a GM, but I sure wish there was a way to hire Zarren as POBO and then hire Langdon as the GM. That would be my dream scenario.

It's about the entire front office staff. I know transactions go on a GM's record individually, but the entire front office works together to make decisions and set target points. Whoever the GM is - they need to have a number of intelligent people around them, all with different strengths. It's not like you hire one guy and he is the be all, end all.

More important than who the person in that one chair is how big of a budget does Gayle give to that man to fill out his office, his scouting department, his G League GM spot, the assistants in that G League, etc.

The best teams don't just have one genius up top running it all and making every great decision. They have a large crew of smart people with different perspectives and strengths all contributing. THAT will be more important than who the one guy we all praise or blame is.

Well said Crewz. This is one reason I like Ferry. He’s done it on the NBA level before. I guess that logic would also point to Zarren as well. I hate that we’ll have to wait till after the season (I assume) to see who it’s going to be.

Typical Fletch response. Nothing but generic references to names that have been in the media. Makes him look like he has sources.

clearly he does have sources...whether those sources are telling him anything worthy is debatable i guess.

it goes like this...

1) langdon named minor league GM of the year
2) fletch calls someone he knows that works for the pels and asks if langdon is on the list
3) that person says yes

no its not earth-shaking but fletcher has no reason to lie about it, and he does have access

If you watch his comments, he throws one of the names he has been touting and says they are in the conversation. It is pretty consistent. I am waiting for some real information as I do not think he has ever come out and said that anyone is "on the list" per se.

here's the woj quote
quote:

New Orleans has been granted permission to interview several front office candidates for GM job, including Golden State’s Larry Harris, Brooklyn’s Trajan Langdon and Houston’s Gersson Rosas, league sources tell ESPN. There are more candidates expected to be in the process.

they dont need permission to talk to griffin, or ferry (obviously)

fletcher then says this
quote:

And FWIW, I’m told it’s really a 3-man battle between right now.
Ferry
Langdon
Rosas

No

This guy might end up being fine, but I don't want any part of another guy who resurrected his career prospects off the back of Steph Curry
