It’s not. I still think DD will be the better player. The OP is trying to insinuate I’m a Herb hater

I mean you immediately asked why isn't this thread comparing Herb to Murray and then why not Herb to BI. Again, it's not hard to see why he is comparing the two. This thread isn't just about you, the entire board was choosing between these two players. Hopefully he keeps a running total regardless of who is having the better season, not just when Herb is.

quote:

Trading Herb for Murray would have saved us two first rounders. Which woukd have saved Dumars from trading the Pacers pick since we woukd have sent the 25 lakers pick instead.

The Pacers pick became way more appealing after Halliburton’s injury. So maybe that would have been good enough in the Queen trade allowing us to keep our unprotected pick this year.

So you have to ask yourself, is the gap big enough between Herb and DD that it was worth our unprotected pick this year, or at worse, the Pacers top 4 pick next year and where that ‘27 pick ends up?

You're comparing moves and hypotheticals from two different GM's. No sense in judging what Dumars did with picks Griffin got in a DD trade. Kind of irrelevant to the thread. But either way, you don't need to ask yourself that, you simply have to ask if Queen was worth the unprotected to move up 10 spots? Not the gap in Herb and DD. I'm personally not trying to think about the Queen trade up so I'm not constantly angry in my everyday life

Can you give us a breakdown of how awesome Herb's offense was from 22-25 in college and his first 2 seasons here? Herb was drafted at 23 and sucked arse offensively for 2 years. Dyson has 1 more full season in the NBA before he'd comparably be 23 y/o and THEN can still have 2 more years of shitty offense before you can make an equal comparison.

Rest assured, whatever you or anyone else here... thinks Herb's offense was in college...it was massively worse. He was absolutely horrible offensively...coming out of college. I could go into detail but let's just agree, he was awful. If that helps with your argument, feel free to use it.

The Queen trade was retarded. That’s been debated enough.

It doesnt change the fact that the Murray trade cost us two extra firsts. That was real currency used. Griff kept the safer established player instead of the one with the higher ceiling, mostly b/c his seat was hot and to save his arse.

Not sure how this season turns out, but we’d definitely have a pick in this draft if Herb was traded instead of DD. No debating that. That’s not a hypothetical.

Great thread idea! And I say this regardless of how it turns out. It will just be interesting. We all know we gave up a talent in Dyson but it will be fun to follow.

That still counts. It's not like Herb came out like gangbusters last year tbh.

Griff was pushing chips in to see if a Zion/BI team could contend. It looks ridiculous in retrospect, but Zion and BI had each led a Pels team to the play-in level. But the team still needed another initiator -- BI had been humbled and shown that he couldn't consistently bring the ball up the court and escape double-teams. Adding another initiator who was also an elite defender could have made for a contending team, but of course, we never got to see that team on the court, because Zion missed the first game when Murray broke his hand.

Long story short: we needed to give the Zion/BI team a real chance to see what it's ceiling was. And if Zion/BI didn't ultimately work well enough together, we would still be able to trade BI for an elite center. It was the right decision, even though it failed spectacularly.

Real talk - this thread is an embarrassing indictment on the state of the Pelicans and its fans.

We had the biggest war chest in the league and here we are, some 6 years later, doing this thread.

Why don’t you make a Herb vs BI thread. They are closer in age. It would make more sense than what you are trying to do lol…...

That’s quite the obtuse or intellectually dishonest comment.

It really is and it’s depressing as hell. Could’ve had Zion and D. Garland if we kept our two picks instead of Hayes and naw. Would’ve been fun watching garland dish it up to Zion. And who knows maybe that keeps Zion focused on the court instead of the kitchen.

Only 6 points but 9 rebs, 4 asst and 2 steals. +10 was highest of all hawks starters on a good win…..

Is it though? I said I’d trade BI for Murray not Herb. Hell most of the board thought BI’s value was way higher than Murray before the trade. There was joy all over the board that Griff finagled Murray away and were able to keep BI.

Tell me where I’m wrong??

This thread is going to go back and forth all season long because both Herb and Dyson are good defenders who are inconsistent offensively.

It’s inevitable that the Hawks are getting a top3 pick next years draft that should elevate them to a NBA championship.

Didn't you also want to trade for trae young?

Why would he be any better here than with the hawks?

He is going to want a huge deal and isn't really worth it.
