Zion may be the best pick and roll big to ever play
Makes no sense as big and strong as he is that he won't set solid screens. Also makes no sense he's not a beast on the roll, but he's not.
He should be the best at it, and Trae would help that. But, as most things with Zion, he just has to buy in to it.

It makes sense because he pretty much played on the perimeter his entire life. The Pelicans don't seem to coach these fundamentals since everyone on the team sucks at setting screens and it's been that way Green's entire tenure here.

Trae is much better than Ingram.

well we rarely ever did it in 5 years, but i would agree for some reason he doesn't seem good at it.
I think that's where Trae helps tremendously with that in telling Zion what needs to be done, adn they work on it together in their free time.

Listening to BKM podcast, a good stat they brought up, Trae leads the league in potential assists at 18.2. 33% of his shots were assisted.
Kills the whole ball hog narrative a little more

That's a good number but

That seems pretty low as evidence of "killing the ball hog narrative"
I don't even think that matters in the way we think it does though. BI failed not because he didn't shoot enough 3s or play within the offense. He failed because a guy like Dillon Brooks could shut him down before he even passed the 3 point arc with the game on the line. Trae may also not run the coaches preferred offense when the game tightens up, but I would expect the Pels to get a shot off instead of stacking empty possessions in the 4th as the defense ramps up and the Pels watch their lead dwindle.

Coaches and teammates have complained for years that he's an assist-chaser and often chooses the pass that is most likely to result in an assist versus the pass that keeps the offense moving. Frankly, Ingram has shown some of that at times, as well. However, there's way more smoke around it being a real issue for the team and coaches with Trae.

Or, hear me out, he chooses the pass that gets his teammates the easiest shot and most likely to score a basket
He seems to be very deliberate in his passes and waiting for an opening to manifest. Thats what a point guard and your primary ball handler is supposed to do.

You can see what you want to see, but this has been a common talking point on Trae Young for at least 3 years.

Better than Brunson who nobody talks about as a ball hog.
Only 3% less than Halliburton who nobody labels a ball hog.
The commonality between those players is they are the primary ball handlers and runners off their teams offense, so their assisted shots will naturally be lower, but doesn’t mean they’re a hog.

Generally, people don’t call you out on that while you are winning.
Kobe is the main one I can think of who got that treatment.

At this point, we don't know that the Hawks are going to make Trae available, and they may prefer to trade Murray.
But now, we know that Garland is extremely likely to be available.

There are several reports that have said Hawks are going to try to trade Trae. Hes firmly on the trading block.

Both are in a different stratosphere than BI/Trae. That's why.
