Not sure about this package, but just because McCollum is older doesn't mean it's a quick fix or not sustainable.

McCollum is obviously not on the Zion prime timeline; neither is Holiday. Few are advocating they dump Holiday to find a longer term guy right now. Very rarely do teams have their core guys locked in from the start.

If this deal goes down, my assumption, until proven otherwise, is that they think this is the best trade for Davis. That they like this return more than a young Ingram/Tatum or a rookie lottery pick. And that they will continue to develop young players, knowing the ages and career arcs of their current players.

You can also construct a three-way with CJ going other direction.

Just theoretically

I was really impressed with Collins in playoffs and everybody loves CJ. I agree with others that youd have to have another deal signed up where you move CJ.

In what world does CJ command more in a trade directly than Anthony Davis

And why wouldn’t we just trade with that team directly? It’s not like the rest of the Portland package is amazing.

Exactly. You pawn off secondary pieces if so need be: not the centerpiece lol

The deal makes you just good enough to fight for an 8 seed. Maybe.

Not good enough to compete with the best in the west. Not bad enough to improve through the draft. And we're still not a free agent destination. How do we get better?

Congrats. We're the Charlotte Hornets

Like mentioned before, it’s another chair at the bidding table.... Will push the others....

I don’t know how but portland would have to add something of substance next to CJ to be serious about their offer or add a couple more 1st (swap or unprotected)...

I don't understand why the people are having such strong reactions to this. This is one of those 2nd tier packages like the Clippers, Nets and Hawks that seem to have admitted defeat several days ago. I don't think hearing about it now means it's in play. But it is nice to see so much competition even when the top 3 choices were always obvious. That will help keep the top 3 offers strong.

Right. Just because POR is offering doesn't mean Griff is really entertaining it. This trade just doesn't make sense for us as a franchise, but does make sense for POR to offer.

It's a little odd to be worried about the long term, then, in the same breath, despair because they may happen to grab an older guy with 2 years left on his deal.

If they do something like this potential move, it does not doom them to the treadmill of mediocrity. Just like getting a younger centerpiece does not set them up for 50+ win seasons and deep playoff runs.

There is no blueprint. All we can hope for is they have smart people thinking about this and that they make the best move they can at the time in the given context.

Certainly there is more than one way to get future assets than receiving future picks in your Super Star trade. But I really want whatever trade package we get to come with some worthwhile future picks.

That's what was always missing in both the CP3 and AD eras, they had just enough to get the team one or 2 pieces away from contention, but never had enough spare assets or cap space to get over that hump. Hopefully the AD trade will give the Pels enough spare assets that the Zion era won't come up short.

CJ/Jrue/Zion/Collins with depth is a FAR cry from the Charlotte Hornets. Kemba is out there playing with a d league team

We’re not going to COMPETE with the Warriors. We should be aiming for 2-3 years down the line

I think they should really be aiming a couple years beyond that. At the start of the season, the most talented player on this team will barely be 19. I don’t think it’s realistic to be aiming for title contention by his third or fourth year.

So we have are core of CJ, Jrue, Zion with a promising young big like Collins. Seems like a good spot to be in. Cj has 5-6 prime years left.

Right now, they can offer CJ and Collins, and apparently they are offering some expiring contracts for worse contracts and getting picks to add to the package (think E. Turner for Batum, #12, 36, and future 2nds).

Pass.

Right. They need future picks and they need to use all avenues to build the roster.

We're talking about 8-9 (hopefully more) years of Zion. They need to be looking for pieces, always. But this is 8-9 year project. We need to approach it on that timeframe; things will change

I really like CJ and would love to get him, but he's not the main player in return i want from a AD trade b/c of his age. ANd i do'nt think Zach Collins is good enough to be the good young piece we get, although i'd love to get him as well.

This Portland trade would be the last one i would accept if Boston/LA/NYK fell apart completely.
