re: CJ in his latest podcast got pretty real about the infamous "team meeting"

Will Guillory has a good article about this team meeting also.
quote:
For nearly an hour, the team gathered before practice to talk through their problems. They ran through several topics, but two main points of emphasis emerged.
One was the need for the group to buy-in on a specific identity instead of everyone pulling in different directions. Three core characteristics needed to be non-negotiables for everyone moving forward: effort on defense, scoring in transition and sharing the ball. Though Pelicans coach Willie Green had been preaching the importance of all three for months, the players realized they needed to fully commit to everything that comes with those demands.
quote:
The other intended purposes of the meeting was to make clear that Williamson and Ingram were the emotional heartbeats of the team — especially with CJ McCollum sidelined with a partially collapsed lung — and things would only change once both fully committed to pushing the team in the right direction.
quote:LINK
They’re the heartbeat of this team. The heartbeat of this organization. They know it. These two can carry the weight of the organization. They’re that great,” Nance said. “I think the message is always that you have to continue to be worthy of that. Being worthy of that is showing up and being great every day. They don’t have to be vocal. We have people who can do that. They have to go out there and show it, and we’re going to follow.”

I think the rest of the team especially the vets were pissed as frick at those two being lazy.

Being lazy especially on defense, and talking specifically about sharing the ball says that they were getting on Ingram also for hsi shot selection and dribbling out the shot clock.
I’m glad it happened, especially this early, and BI and Zion taking it to heart and listening and actually deciding that wins are more important than individual stats.
If BI keeps this shot selection and level up play up the rest of the season I will feel a whole lot better with his next contract.

CJ reportedly played a big role in getting Zion back from Portland and helping mend the relationship with the team. If this works out, CJ will have been a huge reason why, regardless of what he does or doesn't do on the court.
Hope we keep him around in some capacity after his playing days. Wonder if he has any aspirations on coaching at some point?

And it's Willie's fricken job to make sure if any player doesn't conform that they get benched, no matter what.
Will it last?
Does Willie have the balls?
Time will tell.

So while we should all be happy about the on court product that has resulted from this meeting, I think it would be naive for us as Pels fans to think we solved all the issues and everything will be great for the rest of time. Odds are something else Wil happen, and CJ will have to be pissed at Zion again. Let's just hope we defy those odds moving forward.

Don't know how such a Pels fan could exist

If there was ever a quote that defined Zion's entire Pelicans career up to this point, this is it.

Not true, you are confusing Clark comment about Zion saying he has to take a back seat which didn't go over well with the team. That was before the meeting.

Even if CJ plays like arse from here on out, at least keeping him on the bench and on the roster is going to be super important for Zion and BI’s development. I’d almost say we need another bench player with CJ’s mentality to come in via trade and reinforce CJ and Larry

CJ is a very, very valuable player for this team. It’s becoming more and more obvious on and off the court.

You can definitely tell BI has changed his approach post meeting. Moving quicker, no iso's, defensive rebounding.
It seems to me Zion has been reminded he's unguardable and is taking over offensively. Earlier this season I felt he was trying to go 110% all the time and it would result in ball-handling turnovers, I think he's dialed back to 95% and he's dominating again. I still think he needs to be better at rebounding. Too many times he just stands in the paint making little effort to rebound a ball he could easily fight for.
Love to see both of them interacting more. Something as simple as seeing Zion and BI sitting next to each other on the bench is a big deal in my eyes. They hardly ever sat next to each other. BI would sit with Naji and Jose while Zion would go to the end and sit next to the injured guys.
