Take him off the draft board
quote:

Alabama’s freshman basketball standout Brandon Miller brought the gun used on the Tuscaloosa strip killing of a woman that led to capital murder charges for his now former teammate Darius Miles and 20-year-old Michael “Buzz” Davis, according to law enforcement testimony today. Miles contacted Miller and asked him to bring his gun to where they were, according to police. When Miller got to the scene, Miles told Davis, “The heat is in the hat.” Det. Branden Culpepper said that meant a gun was present

Apparently Miles texted Miller that he was being threatened and to bring his gun just in case. Seems like a case of "wrong place, wrong time."

Is it wrong place wrong time when you knowingly and willingly put yourself in a dangerous position?

Really?

quote:

Asked by AL.com why Miller was not charged, Tuscaloosa chief deputy D.A. Paula Whitley said, “That’s not a question I can answer. There’s nothing we could charge him with,’' according to the law, she said.

It does seem like he could fit Accessory To Murder charges, but the DA disagrees. If there are no criminal charges will the league actually prohibit him from entering the draft and tell teams not to draft him? If they did that I could see the union pushing back. This would have to blow up pretty big for him to become radioactive enough to end his career before it starts.

Definitely agree here

I'm no legal expert, but things always amaze me...as I understand it, this dude told Miller to bring a gun as there might be trouble. Miller brings gun, and dude murders someone but there's nothing Miller can be charged with. Uhh what?

Probably one of these DAs with selective enforcement of the law.

Maybe Miller cooperated with police and made it easier to charge the murderer.

Probably won't drop too far as he's not going to be charged. But definitely undraftable for this organization due to character red flag.

This is shaping up to be a really bad draft. Brandon Miller is one of the few guys in the draft class that was a decent prospect.

There’s a good amount of role player potential type guys outside of the top 2. Just not many bonafide allstar type guys

In Alabama though?

Where as I understand it you are explicitly allowed to bring a concealed gun and use it for self-defense?

I think it would come down to any conversations or actions that can be shown that there was some sort of knowledge of pre-meditation and Brandon knowing and aiding that. Showing and knowing intent.

I'm no lawyer, but just bring some heat for me cause shite could go down, then a second person, not the shooter, taking possession, I'm guessing isn't enough to charge him.

Right, but as I understand it, it wasn't self-defense. The dude was charged with murder.

How is that not an accessory to a murder if it's deemed this dude murdered someone?
