Gonna come down to whether someone on our shitty bench can reproduce BI's points

God help us if willie thinks that's Naji

That's about the best Pels could have expected. Bone on bone is super painful and you can expect a lot of swelling. Pels emphasis should be improving defense (paint) and ball handling.

Paint defense was a sieve. First test after a light lunch schedule against a big front line didn't look good. Banchero, Isaac, and the Wagner boys dominated the paint. Trying to plug the sieve subsequently killed the perimeter D leading to a Magic 3pt fest. The ball-handling after jumping out to a good start in the first, was bad and turned the tide and it was a wrap after that, compounded by the injury.

Miami plays similarly to the Pels, with a lot of small ball stuff. Pels match up better and if they can clean up turnovers they have good odds to win. I'm not sure what Pels can do about paint defense ... Where's Karlo?

Well this is where the new medical team earns its keep. They've done well this year tbh.

Losing BI in the interim hurts, no doubt, but THIS is where those that say trade BI haters get to see what it looks like without him.

Time to rely on Trey in the starting lineup and Hawk off the bench. Don't be surprised if this is a silver lining...

Assuming Trey will be starting..

You guys are awfully confident in Jose, Naji, Nance, and the two shooters that are glued to the bench

Now we get to see full Zion commitment and more trey in the starting lineup.

It's shel311's wet dream come true.
If we're still trotting out the corpse of Val, it probably won't go as well as I think it can lol.

Jose and Naji have the best on/off on the team.

It's silly to call the bench shitty.

It's not shitty, but it isn't otherworldly depth anymore with Dyson out and Trey going to the starting unit

And I'm going to say it again even though people don't seem to like it. Willie choosing defense over shooters, even though it goes against what most of us here think is right, including myself, has worked well this season. There is often more than one way to skin a cat, and in this case Willie's way has proven effective.

Most people here are hoping for Hawkins, they're probably going to get more Naji and Jose and Dyson when he returns. In theory and practice, doubling down on Point Zion demands more shooting. But it's probably not going to happen and the history of this season says its going to be ok. Why? Because Zion has so much gravity that his teammates are wide arse open and Naji is shooting 38% from 3 and Jose is shooting 37% this year.

Right. The big change now is that, when Zion is out, we depend much more on CJ and Jonas for shot creation -- which we know works.

Nothing else really needs to change.

Is anyone saying they should trade him and get nothing in return?

Essentially, or at least a clear downgrade in talent. Most are looking to trade a quarter for dimes and nickels. Not that they wouldn't do a quarter for quarter swap if a cheaper/better fitting quarter were available. They are just so concerned about locking into this core and not being able to afford a quality bench that they choose flexibility over high end talent in return.

That's not the only option though. As much as I think CJ has done for this team, with his age and contract he has always seemed like the logical choice to move to me when money gets tight. With Trey and Hawkins, his role will be a lot easier to replace long term.

In the playoffs the refs will try to screw over a small market Pels team. The only way to neutralize the refs is great perimeter shooting.

there's not many teams that can sustain their "depth" when one of their starters and key bench players goes down, at the same time.... just sayin'

Jose with 17 points. Naji with 13 points. Huge minutes off the bench.
