There's still incredible delusion in Lakerland, where they pretend that they can trade Westbrook. Jeanie Buss was clear that she isn't giving up both the '27 and the '29 picks unless it makes the Lakers contenders this season.

Theoretically, Kyrie might have done that. Terry Rozier does not do that. And the Hornets are going to be a playoff team. They aren't going to tank. You see this kind of article on Lakers blogs all the time, and they're just stupid.

Lakers reportedly have ‘high’ interest in Hornets guard Terry Rozier

In all seriousness, no team whatsoever is going to trade for Russell Westbrook right now. The teams that are tanking are going to do it in stealth mode for the time being. They still need to sell some tickets. They owe it to their players and coaches to give them the chance to see what can happen, because maybe all the pieces come together beautifully like Utah's might have.

If you're a GM, trading for Westbrook right now would anger your fanbase.

But, by the time we get to December, the Lakers will be so far behind that Buss and Pelinka aren't going to pull the trigger, as they realize that it would be like throwing good money after bad.

So, I don't think that Westbrook is going to get traded. I think he's ultimately going to get sent home and spend the season doing his fashion stuff and enjoying his money.

If you enjoy this sort of thing, the 538 model projects the Lakers to finish at 31-51, tied for the league's 5th-worst record.

That would be a lot of ping-pong balls.

Dudes gotta get on the phone with Griff again and play nice. There’s no way we’re going to remove the swap option on that 2023 1st. So why not get on the phone and *gulp* give it to em unprotected. Flex outta the 2024/25 deferment and have it become a swap, if not getting the pick back altogether.

Take on Graham’s salary dump with either PatB (can be traded alone now or aggregated on Oct 26th) or SkyWalker/Nunn (can be aggregated together on Dec 15th). Or make it a bigger deal with Russ and taking back Val/Graham & spare parts. At least that boy a career 36% 3pt shooter & you possibly get AD insurance / @5 repellent.

Now you outright lost the 2023 1st and have absolutely no stake in the Wemby draft ??, but now you’ve unlocked 2026/28/30 (in the summer) or 25/27/29 to trade right the F now for a potential difference maker with either Graham/Val or Russ as salary aggregate.

Yep…desperate times call for desperate measures…but it could work ???????

in theory it would be a trade out of the swap (pels keep theirs) in exchange for a 2024 or 2025 swap. The problem with that is the pels’ roster and salary crunch.

if however there’s a deal wherein the lakers take graham (in exchange for all of the lakers one year salary) that might make it worth looking at. Probably not possible though and certainly not necessary at this point

there will be deals out there if the pels want to make a move much better than the lakers crap

I don’t think they understand just how much enjoyment we’re getting from their misery after they blatantly tampered with our star player. We might try to find a win win adjustment to the deal with Milwaukee when the time comes, but the only thing we want from the Lakers is more time to twist the knife and watch them squirm.

yes that is the lakers tax and it’s not just applicable in a pels trade. Just look at IND. turner is maybe (maybe) worth a 1st but hield certainly is not, and GOATbrook would give IND nearly unprecedented expiring salary

you would think that deal would be long done. But they want both picks and know the lakers are desperate

uhhhh, the Hornets aren't good, and i'm pretty sure they are wanting to tank and get a high draft pick to get another young player to pair with LaMelo.
They aren't going anywhere with their current roster, and if they can get assets for Rozier and for Hayward, they're going to trade one or both this year more than likely.
They got their arse beat in the play in game two years in a row. they aren't a playoff team.

and Rozier and Hayward are worth more than two very far out future firsts.

This is from just the other day from the Charlotte newspaper:

quote:

It’s inevitable, really, and will only grow to a louder crescendo with each twisted ankle, bruised quad and maddening defeat over the coming days, months and weeks. The chatter actually began almost immediately on the heels of an offseason featuring essentially no player movement within the franchise, a head-scratching strategy given that the organization believed it was ready for the next step. But these Charlotte Hornets as currently constructed don’t appear any closer to punching a postseason ticket now than they were during their last visit to Atlanta in April, the very place at which the third game of the 2022-23 season comes Sunday. A dubious 29-point defeat to the Hawks in the play-in tournament set off a chain reaction of events from which the Hornets are still trying to recover, and the glaring question marks surrounding Charlotte’s interior defense and overall talent base weren’t immediately addressed. Factor in LaMelo Ball spraining his left ankle in the penultimate game of the preseason, and it triggers the silly cry among a contingent of Hornets fans imploring to take a page out of former Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie’s book.

In other words, they want the Hornets to tank for Victor Wembanyama. Badly.

Yep. Turner is worth a first, and it's worth a first to take on Westbrook, so Indiana is right to insist on both picks. Hield is basically just salary -- he's so bad defensively that he's not a positive player overall.

And ATL is correct that watching the Lakers' misery is almost as fun as getting lottery picks from them.

It's a great deal for Indy.

But the Lakers, at least for now, realize that move isn't making them a contender, so why deal 2 picks just to contend for a play in spot.

Vogel has to be sitting back, eating popcorn, and knowing he will have good choices for his next coaching job as the Lakers continue to suck.

Not Ham’s fault they have issues but Vogel clearly wasn’t the problem there.
