what are we willing to give up for 2 seasons of Mccollum?

I'd give up Hart/Jax/Sato/protected 1st for CJ. To get Portland to do a trade now you probably have to throw in a 2nd 1st.

On top of that, adding CJ to the mix makes it more likely you make the playoffs and lose your 2022 1st. So trading for him now quite possibly costs you 3 1sts to get him vs. missing the playoffs and waiting for the offseason and maybe only having to give up 1 1st.

I'll keep saying it and I still mean it. I'm not in favor of any move (barring for some REALLY high level player) that gives up future draft pick assets right now.

We already did for Graham and Jonas, and I'd rather just let this play out and see what happens, and see what opportunities present themselves this offseason.

I think the best or main reason to not at least make a play at McCollum is if you think you can get a better player in the offseason.

But kinda like the Kyle Lowry situation, you better have your Intel in line and not miss.

This is correct and I was wrong. Sorry about that.

The 24-25 season is likely the true make or break season.

Final year of BI's contract, 2nd year of Zion's new contract.

That gives us basically three years to progressively get better and be a true contender(which we better be if we have any hope) that year with an upside future or there's a lot of reason for both BI and Zion to make exit plans.

Thats partly why I am not really wanting to make a major move at the deadline that will have reverberations so far out(unless it is some homerun play no one saw coming that brings back a prime aged guard that fits well). Especially when a similar deal is likely waiting in the offseason where we have a better barometer of everything...and likely better assets to work with than had we made an aggressive deadline trade.

One more hypothetical to throw in here: I think we just about have to finish ahead of the Lakers to have any chance of pushing them down to the #10 or lower slot in order to get their draft pick. It still doesn't make it likely that we get the pick, but finishing ahead of the Lakers as opposed to behind them probably raises the odds from something like 10% up to 30%.

The Lakers would currently be in the #12 slot, and we'd only have a 7.2% chance of getting that pick if the season ended today (their top-4 lottery odds) -- and that's only if they don't win in the play-in to make the actual playoffs. Besides us, the only team that I think is likely to move up past the Lakers in the standings is the Knicks, but if both us us move past the Lakers, that could push them down to #10, where our odds of getting the pick are 80%.

Oof

Makes Dinwiddie making NAW look like his training bag in the offseason sting even more.

But looks like we might have dodged another bullet after trying to overpay him and Hardaway this offseason. Both looking like shells of themselves.

I'm to the point of where I have no idea what I want us to do at the deadline. Part of me wants to make a deal and part of me wants to just let it ride.

I dont think we have that much time with Zion. But I am legit nervous that Zion will demand a trade a year after signing his extension if we dont seriously compete (4-5 seed ish).

Low key, I think all the pieces are falling into place where Beal is going to walk in FA...And if Wiz had any inkling of foresight they would make him the secret blockbuster trade piece on the market right not(which they dont and wont).

Let me preface that no way he comes here, and I know he legitimately places non-NBA things like family stability and his children having a stable school journey as priority, but I simply cant see how he signs back up for more of this with Washington?...Unless he really believes his best days are behind him and he wants one last big bag

If he signs the super max, it'll immediately become a top 3 ish worst contract in the NBA.

The Wizards should not be remotely considering it IMO.

I think it is pretty apparent at this point that while Beal is a good player, I really don't think he is an elite or #1 player on a team.

Utah was supposedly considering trading him. This is definitely a blow for them.

Sucks but that is probably it for his career TBH.

Was already on a disappointing decline this season, is 34, a FA.

Could maybe see a vet team with the space throwing him a minimum, or a team hit with injuries taking a flyer on him in-season next year.

But that sort of feels like his best case scenario now.

Way too much for CJ. Pass.

That is a wild price for CJ. IF he really costs 2 firsts + Hart + prospect, I would much rather throw some seconds at the Knicks for Kemba.

You are probably correct, which is why Gayle needed to either fire or ensure Griff his job is 100% safe through his contract.

I definitely is not safe. But Griff's replacement is sitting right next to him and is not going to approve a shitty short term trade.
