And had no idea that Eddie Vedder sang in it with Cornell. Read on Wiki that it was his first true recording that was successful.

Love that song even more now.

Always though Vedder just was with Pearl Jam.

Temple of the Dog was a project as a tribute to Andrew Wood, who Cornell was a roommate with at one time. Vedder was brought into the project.

Yeah, I read that on wiki. Never heard of Wood. Did he sing anything popular that I would know?

Was watching the video and saw the young dude singing in the tall grass and said to myself, "frick! That's Vedder! "

Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were in Mother Love Bone with Wood.

Gossard was also in Green River, which had a lot of influence on the music that would later be called Grunge. Mother Love Bone to me was the first real band with the PJ sound. Wood died right before the release of their "breakthrough" album Apple. They would have been pretty big IMO

Listen to a couple of their songs.

Stardog Champion
Stargazer
Gentle Groove
Bone China
Chloe/Crown of Thorns
Man of Golden Words

Man of Golden Words is where the phrase Temple of the Dog originated. Chloe Dancer/Crown of thorns was probably their biggest hit and is performed on occasion by Pearl Jam, who has two former MLB members.

Little pseudo documentary that tells a little about the band

Was this your first time hearing the song? His voice is fairly recognizable.

I've liked the song since it came out, but never realized it was Vedder. Never saw the video until today.

Did a grunge tour in Seattle in June that was very cool. Have been meaning to watch PJ20 since I got back.

Tour guide says at Wood's funeral (OD) that his dad closed the eulogy by telling Stone and Jeff directly that they would make it big with their next band but to make sure the new lead singer wasn't a "fricking junkie." Unreal.

Hunger Strike is one of my fav songs to sing when I'm out and about. I have EV's part to a tee but Cornell is so tough to match in that song. I have two or three friends who are in bands that can pull his part off respectfully well and it is such a crowd mover when the song is done right.

I've heard the funeral story, apparently it's true:

quote:

A 2005 documentary " Malfunkshun: The Andrew Wood Story" was released on DVD in 2011 packaged with two cd's of music including never before released material from Malfunkshun.

The documentary opens with David Wood, Andrew's father speaking at his memorial service, "You guys got to take care of yourselves, I can’t go through this again. You guys in the band, well, I bet you feel like you’re sold out, but Andy didn’t do this to you. He had everything in the world to live for and he lived for you. I hope you go on to be the biggest stars you can be. I want to see you guys on TV, but if you guys got to get another singer, don’t get a junkie.”

The Music Bank is a place that has always caught my attention. I bet it would have been awesome to visit in it's heyday. Both AIC and MLB were believed to have formed at the Music Bank.
