Will there ever be another ‘Smells like teen spirit’ again?

I’m not talking about a remake of the song, but rather what that song represented in a time of overproduced shitty music... for me, the song is pretty ‘meh’ but.....
Hair metal was all over the radio, along with some shitty pop/hip-hop. Rock was pretty much dead, and then SLTS brought grunge to the forefront and helped catapult Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc and helped bring actually decent music to the radio for a while.
It seems that now, more than ever, the music industry is just terrible; especially the mainstream horse shite that mumble rappers and dancing pop star whores are putting out. I’ve never witnessed such a sad state of terrible ‘Rock’ artists. Acts like Mumford & Sons and Maoon 5 are really the biggest things in rock right now? It’s just terrible.
Basically, can any band spark interest in rock again or is it too far gone in your opinion?

Apparently a dude that sounds exactly like cobain could pop up an people would go apeshit for it
Especially if the band played real instruments
Unlike most of the
bullshite out there
today.

I don't know, man. Everything is so diluted these days it's really hard for the good stuff to get to the mainstream though a source that enough people listen to. That's my take, anyway.

Gotta dig a bit on Spotify. It's still there, you just have to want it.

Hopefully not.

don’t know if we’ll ever see one song turn the industry upside down again like we did.
i was in high school when that album hit and it was like a godsend.
it was the final knife through the heart of the shitty 80s era of “rock”.
and it was the final burst of life from Rock before fricking hip-hop and pop completely took over the airwaves.
Kinda like wolverine’s last hoorah in “Logan”. Shoots up one last time, goes vessel killing everything in its path before dying in battle.

I really don't know, but it is probably the last song that hit me like that. I was driving on Dalrymple the first time I heard it. It was on KLSU. I almost pulled over. I told everyone I knew about it. Took a while for it to hit real radio. No one I told remembered

AlxTgr,
I was biking down Dalrymple by the lakes. You nearly hit me.
Just kidding, but I used to bike to work at that very time.

Right by the railroad crossing at the golf course? I remember swerving.

Thanks to Spotify, you can listen to plenty of good new music/bands/artists. FM radio blows.

God, I hope not. I've always thought Nirvana was overrated trash. Kurt was a dopey junkie mumbling incoherent nonsense.

I just watched this song on YouTube w/ lyrics because I’ve never understood a word of it. Now that I know the lyrics, I have no idea what it means.

Ironically, one of their biggest fans before they broke out was one W. Axl Rose. He wanted Nirvana to open for Guns, but Kurt was just a gigantic junkie bitch who resented the fact that Axl was a fan. It just spiraled into a nasty feud from there. Nowadays those guys are all friends.

MTV and a shotgun in the mouth made Nirvana. Just another depressed rockstar junkie whose legacy benefited from an early death.

I thought Nirvana was much bigger while he was alive.. I dont think history has been all that kind to their legacy.. All I seem to hear from people is they are over rated.. Which I totally disagree with..
I remember loving Bleach so much and when Nevermind came out, at first I was kind of taken a back from the polish on the record and I hated the cover art.. But the songs were still great! I would never have guessed Smells Like Teen Spirit was about to blow up after the first few listens.. though I assumed the singles would get more push, since they were now on Geffen...
Still, to this day, I have never liked Come As You Are...
As to the OP's question... You never know, but one can hope that the Kids will embrace guitar based rock again... I just dont think a single will ever have that kind of impact, with all the different ways music is released these days..

Look overseas for rock and metal imo.

It was a different era. MTV ruled, radio payola and huge record companies were still capable of creating hits. Music today isn't driven by a monopolistic industry that can make or break artists and trends. Digital killed all that.
