Your opinions are really bad. You must be unintelligent and untalented.

I watched the full documentary that Richard was heavily involved in, and I never detected this. He had a drug period, but lots of musicians did. Those who discount his contribution should really watch the documentaries. None of their stuff would have been possible without his arrangements.

Alice Cooper once said that Karen Carpenter had the best voice in pop music

Everyone in the 70s was depressed. The music reflected that. Especially from '74 on.

She had a low and smooth voice. She is a female version of Bing Crosby.

The “70s sound” was a casting about for a successful white blues sound. Some worked very well, others were shite…I.e. disco. I hated, HATED disco. Disco existed to teach stupid people how and when to move to a beat and air-frick.

I’ve found that their music has held up very well over the years. Excellent production with perfect arrangements for Karen’s voice.

Whenever I hear this song, I always stop and listen. Superstar

One of the dozens of reasons I love Alice.

He could also acknowledge Glen Campbell was a Top 5 guitar player of all-time.

Because it's the 70's and it's a long,long list.

Not a better decade for pop/rock icons and isn't close

They are to me. When their '72 single 'Goodbye To Love' came out, it turned some of their fans off due to the distorted guitar solo in the middle and outro. That and 'Solitaire' happen to be my favorite Carpenters singles

Whenever I hear “Close to You” it takes me back to me being a little kid following my mother around in the Houma mall in the early 70s.

I think they are. Way up there on the pop side. I mean, only 4 acts charted singles 300+ weeks for the decade - Sir Elton, the Brothers Gibb, OG Chicago and Maca. The Carpenters had the most without breaking 300 at 297, putting them at #5.

That's rarefied air right there.

They absolutely are pop icons because there had never been anything like them before, and there hasn't since. They are completely unique. And they have arguably the greatest voice in history singing songs arranged specifically for her to shine.

Their music isn't everybody's cup of tea, but the talent (both) is undeniable.

Started the morning cooking off with There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays. That song makes a great holiday mix.

They’re the definition of 70s pop icons.
