Eric Clapton is the Forrest Gump of music. The best work that he has been a part of was mostly facilitated by others. Without Baker, Bruce, Allman, Gordon, etc. he doesn’t have anything worth a damn in his catalog.
Can/could he play guitar? Sure. He is a fine player. Forrest Gump could also run like the wind and play the frick out of ping pong. He also was in the right place at the right time just like Clapton.

The reason that would be an unpopular opinion is because it shows both a poor understanding of the Allman bros and music in general.

I've always thought that Clapton and Hendrix were a bit overrated. Hendrix because he died early. I kind of get that. But Clapton? Clapton is God??? I never understood that.

Totally agree. Dickey Betz was a drunk a-hole. He couldn't carry Duane Allman's jock strap.
