What are best headphones for music? Not buds or pods.

I don't know if they're the best, but I like my Audio- Technica pretty well.

I love my Akg q701s. The only downside is they will need a headphone amp. I hear Sennheiser 600s are really really nice. What's your price range?

I have about four pairs of Sennheiser headphones.

ETA: I have a set of the wired Momentums, a set of the wireless Momentums, a set of the HD 598 open back headphones, and a set of the CX Sport ear buds.

Another vote for Sennheiser. I like mine and they weren't too expensive. DT 770 PRO 32 OHM (i went with the low ohms since i listen with a iphone or laptop usually). I think I paid about $100 a year or two ago but they appear to be $169 now. They sound a lot better than airpods pro and are very comfortable.

A budget would be helpful.

I have a basic pair of $50-$60 Sennheiser over ear headphones that sound good to me. Not trying to be the best at listening to music tho.

I have the Sennheiser HD 280 to use while recording. $100 typically but I think I got them on sale. Not a bad pair for what I use them for although they fit tight and my ear cartilage starts hurting after using them for a while. Not sure if I’d recommend them for just listening to music. There are much better and more expensive headphones available. If sound bleed isn’t an issue maybe OP should consider open back headphones.

Dont buy Beats Studio 3 over the ear headphones they suck. Paid $160 and the sound is horrible compared to the first set of Beats I bought back in 2014.
The 2014 set cost $379 but the sound quality made them worth it.

I have the Sony XM3's and they're great. There have been two newer models that have been released since I got them.

to tag onto this discussion, I'm about to add a new pair of bluetooth headphones - thoughts on ON the ear vs OVER the ear? the last pair of over the ear phones I had were bad about trapping heat inside them and being tight enough that they caused pressure points on the sides of my head but that's been quite a few years ago. I have a set of wired Sennheiser on the the ear that i liked well enough but the sound isolation isn't great and as stated I'm going BT for the next pair

The best? Focal Utopia headphones, which run around $5k.

JBL

I’ve had these for a few years. Cheap, and I absolutely love them.

An industry standard has been Sony MDR-7506. They retail for $100. I’ve owned numerous pairs.
