Not enough people talk about them these days considering they were a seminal modern rock act. While they were an influence on a great many musicians and bands of the time, I guess their songs didn't make enough waves on the charts. Their sound definitely brings me back to the '90s, though, and were definitely an influence on me as a fledgling teen band member.

I was really in to 11. That was a great album. I think one of the reasons they are forgotten is grunge just kind of overwhelmed those second tier college radio bands.

I liked them then and like them now

like The Cult a band I thought should've been bigger, but I still love the music

Saw them open for the cult at a private show in Dallas in 2006. It was an unbelievable. My favorite, being opened by a legendary college alternative that I had never seen. I played them a ton while a DJ for a college radio station I worked at in the late 80s early 90s. That night, they stole the show. Blood and roses is all world live. Pat was a great writer and went from brooding garage icon, to happy and comfortable in his own skin. Jim and Dennis are as solid of companions as you can get. Mike was great and Severo is outstanding. They carry the torch for all garage rock bands for me, and will always be one of the bands that makes it real. I hold them in the same regards as the pixies. Greatly underrated.

The red dragon has Marshall Crenshaw coming in the fall. I’m secretly hoping he pulls the smithereens with him. That would be a night!!

A song named after a movie, that actually manages to capture some of the movie's mood

I think they were properly rated

good songs and a great sound, somewhat diminished because their lead singer strongly resembled Bob Denver’s character from Dobie Gillis

I've seen them many times over the years.
I remember hearing Blood and Roses for the first time and was hooked.

Moved to NJ in 2006 and saw them in 2007, met them after a show at the Stone Pony, my wife was friends with Pat.

Pat could really sing and was a good guy. It was sad seeing them play because his health was declining and he couldn't play guitar anymore, but he could still sing.

I think they are underated nationally but here in NJ they are not underated at all

Good music.. Classic band struggle. The guitar player wanted to rock. The singer wanted to write love songs. I lived in Central Fla for a few years. We saw great midweek shows. The bands played bigger venues in Tampa, Jax, Miami over the weekends. . Tuesday or Wednesday nights were smaller music clubs or bars.

I saw The Smithereens, Concrete Blonde, Lemonheads, Buffalo Tom, The Ramones with Frank Black as the opening act. Saw Fastball right before the album hit.

Was a huge fan back in the day. Now, my music app really overplays them for my tastes. I hate to do it, but will likely have to thumb down some just to decrease the repetitiveness.

Agreed. I mentioned them in a thread a while back about underrated bands. Saw them a couple of times back in the day and they were great live!

Here's another good one.

Man that's just one of those songs I hear and it's instantly 1990 again.

Mediocre band

All of their music sounded exactly the same.

They were loud, I'll give you that much.
