Titus Andronicus, Cloud Nothings, the National, Man Man, Punch Brothers, Trampled by Turtles, Mister Heavenly, Dr. Dog, the Hold Steady, Deer Tick… there are plenty of smallish bands who the Varsity could get. And get great shows, too.
Same here, I live in NOLA...
The Varsity is in that size range that is too big for x... and too small for y...
Hopefully, Docs boy figures out the balance within BRs taste of music...

And for the hip hop crowd, Atmosphere. His show at the HOB was awesome a few years back.

You do realize there's a massive university in BR? Don't get me wrong BR/LP has a strong contingent of Nickleback and Staind fans but to say it's poor is wrong.

Alabama shakes have been playing 1000 person venues so I think they'd do it.
I know people who are good friends with them and they've said that they think they'd be down.
I know they've been contacted though as far as the varsity goes.

I agree these bands might be a bit too big for the Varsity, but there is a market to support those premium type shows at the Varsity if you do it sparingly and pick the right acts to do it. I'm pretty sure the Varsity has sold out the Willy Nelson show at that price the last couple years.
I don't think those 2 bands in particular could support that price point necessarily, but I think that if you pick your spots the Varsity could easily pull off 2-3 of those type shows a year.

Does anyone know how much the Varsity holds as compared to, say, HOB or One Eyed Jacks?
Pretty good upcoming bands, like the Civil Wars, have played recently at OEJ, and I'm sure that's pretty close to how much the Varsity could hold.
