re: I don't get hip hop heads

Ignorance? I used to listen to rap then I grew up. There is a lot of good hip hop out there but I assumed he was talking about mainstream rap i.e. whoever fits the Lil Wayne/drake mold

Cripple Creek. A prerequisite amongst LC boogie Woogie Rock & Roll
Posted by genxtiger on 4/30/13 at 8:16 pm
A friend of mine posted this on facebook earlier. He was referencing Up on Cripple Creek by The Band.
It reminded me of a story I heard about the origin of the song. Supposedly Cripple Creek is what they used to call an area around south lake charles because Sheriff Ham Reid (allegedly) would tax cocaine smugglers to use his roadways. If he caught someone running coke who had not payed the tax he would beat them with his night stick, hence Cripple Creek.
I have read origin stories on the internets but there is no mention of this. Any old schooler from around the area who can validate this?

Too damn hot to camp anymore this year.
When we were on the Buffalo last year it was late june or early july and the day time temps were breaking records for that time of the year. It was hovering around 100 every day. At night it dropped to a solid 60-65. I just slept in my hammock with scrubs and a long sleeve t-shirt and felt amazing.

Was it last summer that Galactic was supposed to play? I remember being in town when they announced the summer shows and not one person mentioned Galactic. They couldn't shut up about Bret Michaels, bag of donuts, and the chee weez. God help them.
Multi-day canoe trip suggestions

Can any of you gents suggest a good river to spend a few days floating and camping on?
I went to the buffalo river last summer and wouldn't mind going back, but I am looking for new options. I want to bring my lab with me and I'm looking to drive up to 10-12 hours from BR/LC.

I'll come out and say it..... The reason that the music scene in LC sucks is because every time a band that was popular 10 years ago comes into town people go ballistic and act like they are getting treated to a once in a life time show.

Emancipator is a solid choice. In under grad I could get away with sound tribe at the most but nothing lyric driven. I'm in law school now and have to sit in silence. It sucks.

All of you assholes able to be at the fest today go check out the Lagniappe stage at 5:30 and support some home grown talent. There will be a lively crew of good people in the ground to entertain you along with the good musics.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much i like it the first time i saw it

Will be there.
I watched Searching for Sugarman and now I'm hooked. Great sound coming from an awesome guy. His story is insane and plays out like a Greek tragedy
That happened to me with Rich Girl this morning, thus my original question
I'm very upset about missing them at jazzfest. How popular we're they in their prime? Cab I get a comparison to another band?

I'm interested in what it was like when they were still making music. Someone fill me in.
