Most people have terrible taste. That's not just in music, that's in everything. And really, it's because of one major thing: only a small fraction of people care about some specific thing. Look, I don't care much about food. I'm not a gourmand, so guess what? I have pedestrian tastes in food. No one should take my advice on food because really, I don't care that much. I'm actually fine with a sandwich.
The Grammys honor the best-selling music. This just in, the stuff that sells the most isn't terribly good. It's well-made mediocrities. There's nothing wrong with this, but it really comes down to this: 90% of the music buying public don't care all that much. Or if they do care, they are teenagers, and teenagers have horrible taste in everything (sorry, kids, you do). The Grammys sucked this year, they sucked last year, they sucked 10 years ago, 20 years ago, and will continue to suck in the future. That's the nature of the beast. It's why Two and Half Men is the most watch sitcoms: people don't care.
Now, I hate Phish. I think they suck. But you know what, the Phish fans don't bother me all that much because I know they at least care. They have put forth the effort to develop their own pallatte, even if I disagree with it. However, I can have a discussion with someone like that because I know they are at least passionate. I don't feel the same way about someone who is a huge Macklemore fan.

From what I see on this board, the majority of posters on here aren't really fans of the top 40 crap. Maybe it's just because I don't even click on threads that are clearly related to top 40 though.
If you linger here long enough, you will find people passionate about the music they like, truly talented musicians come up time and time again in different discussions. The talentless crap always gets played out on here just like in real life.

I really don't care if people enjoy whatever kind of music they want. I'm one of those "whatever makes you happy" kind of people but if someone tells me they like certain artists and it's not a guilty pleasure then I'm just not going to take their opinion seriously.

For the record, this wasn't a thread on the OT. I'm just seeing if I can get the posters who have never posted on here or given a solid discussion about music here, who invaded the board on Grammy night, to tell us a little about their musical preferences.
