new country's ability to cross over into other areas (like EDM and pop) is an interesting development

Too bad it all sounds like shite.

Wasn't trying to sound like a dick, was just asking because if a song at least sounds good i will give it a chance, but if the lyrics are fricking abysmal its hard for me to overcome and enjoy the song.

and i'm sure not everyone will feel that way (like the Phish comment). that's the point of THE conversation

it's like movies. i typically don't' give a shite about acting, and think most people who act like they can judge it are just spouting bullshite. but some people just eat that shite up (True Detective is by far the easiest example now)

music is pure opinion. it's a tool, and it serves different purposes at different times for different uses of different people. each identifiable variable cannot be deconstructed into a number, so an actual comparison is not possible. hell i bet you "snobs" can't even agree on all the variables of which to define "good" music.

I think it speaks a lot more about a youth culture that is having a hard time finding an identity and trying to fit in.

Being a little redneck yet thuggish and popping mollys to EDM is all "IN"...Nashville is just striking while the iron is hot

this may be the most mind blowing comment of this thread, but "Get lucky" isn't complex enough to be called pop

that's actually a huge problem with daft punk

and as a person who has listened to EDM for over 15 years, it has never been better overall

lots and lots of content and crossing over creating all sorts of shite. some works. some doesn't. but you wont' find another area of music with as much experimentation (and complexity, in certain angles)

rap has a lot of that too, but i know that opinion will not be accepted on here (and i don't listen to much rap anymore)

I really can't stand this song. I think it's because my roommate who is always singing and whistling constantly sang it so now I can't even stand hearing it once.

Has pop been defined here yet? What's the criteria?

yes. daft punk makes decent samples but rarely make complete songs. pop songs at least do that

they're mostly a variety of funk and light house

even "get lucky" is just a funk song...just a repetitive funk song

i haven't heard eery song on RAM b/c i can't stand daft punk, but from waht i've heard i wouldn't consider it pop (especially in today's market)

The two biggest pop songs of 2013 were Get Lucky and Blurred Lines, which coincidentally are both disco-funk.
