what's wrong with some pop?

people who can't enjoy some pop music (Especially for what it is) take life too seriously

While I disagree vehemently with your opinion on Phish, this:
quote:

They have put forth the effort to develop their own pallatte, even if I disagree with it. However, I can have a discussion with someone like that because I know they are at least passionate. I don't feel the same way about someone who is a huge Macklemore fan.

Is right on

Nothing, I would say most people that consider themselves of high musical taste, and don't take themselves too seriously, enjoy a good pop song. The operative term being good.

Nothing. Random Access Memories was a great album and the best Grammy-album of the year selection in quite some time.

Every genre has good stuff and bad stuff.

Agreed, been jamming to it today. Good put your head down and get some work done music when you don't need any outside distractions.

i think the operative phrase is, " and don't take themselves too seriously"

and even shitty pop can sometimes get lucky with a catchy beat/hook, like that Ke$ha/Pitbull song

Get Lucky, Instant Crush, Lose Yourself to Dance, Fragments of Time, and Doin' It Right are all pop.

Michael Jackson was the king of pop and I think he is one of the greats...pop music can be good, but it's more often really bad

I can get satisfaction out of a shitty top 40 song

I mean, so can anyone with a working brain. That's kind of the point. That doesn't really make it a "good" or worthwhile in any way. Candy tastes good, but it doesn't have many redeemable qualities.

But if that's the full extent in your musical tastes, then I think you have shitty taste.

sure that's the point though...of pop i mean

i'm sure even new country, which is the shittiest music on earth, can be good

pop is catchy music that you can dance to typically that doesn't have a long shelf life b/c it's not complex or requiring of digestion

Is a lack of creative lyrics enough to ruin a song for most of yall? I like to think it is for me, but then again I just like the sound of Daft Punk and some others that are known for their sound and aren't necessarily known for good lyrics. Most pop music these days lack both and it frickin grinds my gears...especially because its all my fiance listens to.

sure it does

you're creating a definition of "good" or "worthwhile" that is tautological, to defend your own opinions

so now it's not about the individual piece, but about the totality of musical preference?

see? you're already shifting the goal posts

Wasn't trying to sound like a dick, was just asking because if a song at least sounds good i will give it a chance, but if the lyrics are fricking abysmal its hard for me to overcome and enjoy the song.

new country's ability to cross over into other areas (like EDM and pop) is an interesting development
