I like it. Hopefully they'll do a US tour one day.

Sounds like Death Magnetic but with a better mix, which I'm fine with. The kick drums sound punchy as hell. Track itself is good enough and inoffensive. Interested to hear the more ambitious tracks.

they went back to their thrash/punk roots with it. I like that they kept it short---and kirk layed off the wah pedal. definitely better than I expected.

I know its become a cliche, but Lars sucks. The drumming on that track is monotonous and annoying.

He was more than fine during Metallica's heyday, but then he was passed up by so many exceptional extreme metal drummers.

If you're not going to play with "feel", then you should at least be able to dazzle me with your technical musicianship.

Even Bill Ward's drumming from the early '70s puts all of Ulrich's post-...And Justice for All work to shame.

They're still Alot of fun to see live and I'll always see them when I get the chance, but they peaked so hard in 2001. Their music just seems different since then

Agree. I wish that Lars would have given up drums after Load/Reload and Dave Lombardo would have joined the band. He would have challenged and pushed them beyond that generic stuff and inspired a lot more creativity from James and Kirk. Like in their earlier days when Lars could play and they were still hungry and angry. Lars has been dead weight in this band for the last 20+ years. He should have moved to the recording side.

I like the speed and rhythm of it, but would have preferred they use their older tone. Not a fan of the 'newer' distortion.

The video is horrendous! Staring directly into a strobe light for 5 mins is more pleasant than this erratic garbage.

The song though? I'm actually impressed. It's not great, but this is their best work since the Black album. The sound is on point, it doesn't sound forced and it has a great pacing to it; however, their is nothing original in it overall. The riffs are quite typical. That is mostly to be expected though from a band that's been playing for 30 years.

6/10 for me

I don't know what this says about the drumming on Death Magnetic. I think he does just fine on that excellent album.

It's about what I expected. Pretty generic stuff and fast for the sake of fast. Definitely better production and mixing but Hetfield just doesn't sound good "spitting" his vocals out like that anymore. Hopefully there's some slower, heavier, Sad But True/Harvester of Sorrow type stuff on the album.

The song is OK, aggressive and fast but it doesn't feel like it genuine. I feel as if they play fast just to try and satisfy all the critics. The lyrics don't seem to be saying much either.

On the other hand like someone has already posted they have been playing some sort of metal since 1980 or so. I am sure it is pretty hard to find motivation and new ideas for material after 36 years.

I wish they would take chances. It sounds safe and what a typical 80's or 90's Metallica would say they want. But to my ears, it just sounds uninspired. Besides the mix, I really liked Death Magnetic.
