impressive: radiohead 2008. Not a huge fan. Light show was nuts. Had no idea what to expect when i went in.

Pleasantly surprised: Stephan Stills at Wanee 2010 or Col Bruce wanee 2010

best: wanee 2010 day 3 The word>black keys>Widespread panic>allman bros. Was front row for all of it. just an awesome day

Worst: shpongle there wasn't enough DMT on earth to make that shite sound good

Best: Rage Against the Machine, Voodoo Fest NOLA, 2007. Never been a part of something like that before or since. One of the best nights of my life.

Worst: man I hate to say this... but it was probably Metallica in 2023 at AT&T Stadium. There was a post in this thread earlier that nailed it... they are still awesome and can still play, but the big stadium show sucks. The sound is awful and there is just too much going on. Wish I could see them in a small venue.

Pleasantly Surprised: Cypress Hill, Voodoo Fest 2003. Went to see A Perfect Circle and The White Stripes, and Cypress Hill was one of the earlier acts on that stage. They brought the house down and were a ton of fun.

I attended Robert plant and Bob Dylan in the same year and I had low expectations for Plant and high for Bob. Couldn’t have been more opposite. I was shocked at how good Robert plant sounded

If this was at the Centroplex in 1981 with Foghat opening, then I was there as well. I do think they played Baton Rouge the year before too though so not sure which one you’re talking about.

I did not see them at the Centroplex and it was 2 years later. For 1983 they were headlining their own tour, but they played in BR at the State Fairgrounds and I believe they opened for Ozzy.

I saw them earlier in that tour, though.

A lot of concerts I've been to were impressive, I guess the ones that stand out would be Van Halen, Page and Plant and Rush.

But without doubt the worst one was Billy Squire in Augusta, I swear after they would finish a song I could have dropped a dime on the floor and half the arena would have heard it. The crowd just wasn't responding to them at all. I got to feeling kind of sorry for them

The best small venue show I ever saw was Pigface and Evil Mothers.
Best Big Arena Show I ever saw was Ministry.

Gotcha. Yeah, I was at that Ozzy/BOC show as well. That was a pretty cool one-off for them to do. I didn’t really realize it was just a one-off until I was working in Alexandria four years ago and drove by the Rapides Parish Coliseum a number of times. Finally, I went to setlist.fm to see some of the shows the place had had and was surprised to see that BOC played there the night before the show with Ozzy.

I will never go to a stadium show again, for anyone. They are horrible for concerts.

I like small venues of 10k or less, and preferably much smaller than that.

ZZ Top (love 'em, music was great, just too short a set)

Will second this but they were like cardboard cutouts on stage.....they move around less than George Strait on stage.

Best: recent Iron Maiden shows. Production and sound were great and they really seem to understand their audience. Saw Brit Floyd in a small venue - didn’t have much of an expectation, but they were spot on musically and a good show.

Worse was Eric Clapton. Had a few guest guitarists and every song devolved into a meandering jam. It was enough already after about an hour.

Worst was Modest Mouse at HOB NOLA in 2007. Horrible feedback from one of the guitars for the last hour it seemed, and as the show progressed, the singer got worse. Just on and on about politics between songs and after an hour or so, he was almost full blown modern day Vince Neil. Just terrible.

Worst - easy...saw Courtney Love at the 930 Club in DC, she was late and when on stage...drunk and had someone following her around with a camera...just a disaster. And what was even more disappointing was Florence and Machine opened and was just terrific....

Another terrible one, Little Big Town in Huntsville, Al...just terrible

Best - Iron Maiden, Bob Seger, Rolling Stones (no matter, always deliver), Muse (terrific live), and Biffy Clyro (seen them at 350 person DC venue, seen them at Wembley in London just rock)...

Suprised - Depeche Mode, not a band I really follow, but they were outstanding in concert...Kenny Chesney, again not my music (yeah, I know, even if you do not like his music, the man is a performer and just puts on a great show)

Saw The Who with the three remaining originals on a late 90s tour. Fantastic show.

Wilco the closing night at ACL Festival in '07 or thereabouts. Their music wasn't what was needed for a closing act that weekend.

Agree. Saw the Stones this past summer. That's it for me and big shows.

Billy Joel was great in concert.

X2 on Chesney. We were at the show in Frisco, TX that was canceled due to storms. He came back on his own dime and the makeup show was great. He played covers from his early days playing bars in TN.

Best was STP at Joint in Vegas (volume)
Close second Black Crowes at Joint (volume)

Worst was Soundgarden at Cotton Bowl “auditorium”? (Terrible sound/ no ventilation)
Close second Stevie Wonder benefit/corporate show at Alladin in LV (simply laughable)

Elton John

This was around 2003 ish.

Memphis

He played for 3 hours and it was a blast.

Worst: I’m gonna get downvoted but… George straight…. Around 2001 or 2002

He stands in the same place and strums. No energy. It’s a boring show. I’m sorry. It is. May as well save the money and listen to his CD’s. I fell asleep during the show, I had been sick all that week so between the show being boring and me being sleep deprived … it was nap time
