List me 2 or 3 albums you bought as a kid where you knew nothing about the band.

But those 2 or 3 albums turned out to be the some of your favorite music to listen to even to this day. Here are my 2.
1. Paradise Lost Draconian Times
2 Prong Cleansing

A couple of my friends went to a Monkees concert. Opening act was Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were wide-eyed the next day, babbling with amazement. So I went out and bought Are You Experienced.
That changed everything.

I purchased Iron Maiden's Killers and The Number of the Beast at the same time because of the cover art. I had no clue who they were or what the music would be like.

Bought Rage Against the Machine’s first album before it hit just based on the album art. My face was instantly melted.

Guns n Rose's Appetite for Destruction
I was in 8th grade and a girl came back from a vacation in Cali and was talking about them. This was right before they made it big.

I bought Opiate strictly on the cover art at the Esplanade in '92.
And Machine Head Burn My Eyes before I had ever heard of them. Was pleasantly surprised.

I saw Maiden open for 38 Special in '82 and bought those 2 records the next day.
I had my dad buy me Boston's debut record because there was no cover, the vinyl had their logo printed on it and I had to have it and still do.

I bought albums by both Uriah Heep and Yes purely due to their cool album cover art

I “discovered” several bands before they hit the radio or MTV back in the ‘80s - Queensryche, Dokken, and Icon to name a few. I’d just browse through albums at the record store in the mall and grab whatever name sounded cool, had a cool logo or album cover, etc.

Don't listen to them much today, but bought Motley Crue's first album based on the cover, as well as The Replacements' album Let It Be. Cover art was important in the 80's.

A radio DJ gave me a Shootyz Groove album after talking to him about music I liked. I had never heard of them.

Failure- Fantastic Planet
I had heard their cover of "Enjoy the Silence" but none of their original music. I was wandering through a record store one day trying to find something that looked interesting when I saw this album. Bought it mostly based on the cover art. I can remember listening to it for the first time and pretty much every track I would think, "That was fricking incredible. That's got to be the highlight of the album." And then the next track would start and somehow be even more amazing than the last.

I used to dig through the CD racks looking for albums that had interesting album art to find new, unknown bands to check out. There are 3 that to this day stand out as excellent finds.
1. The God Machine "Scenes from the Second Story". This record was released in 1993, and I found it around that time. They had some amazing soundscapes and feel to their music, and they created some awesome guitar hooks. I loved this fricking record, and I highly recommend hitting up youtube to give it a shot. It's a dark metal sound with some killer orchestrations.
The bassist died of a brain anneurism, so the band stopped playing after this. They did release a second album that was pretty good, but it is nowhere near as great as the first one.
2. Mansun "Attack of the Grey Lantern" This was released in 1997, and it's one of the best records to be released that year in my opinion. Maybe even of the late 90s. If they would've gotten some label support here in the States they would've been huge. I listen to this record to this day. This is a must listen for any music fan. I do see on Spotify that one of their songs "Wide Open Space" has over 10million plays, so I am guessing it was used in a movie or commercial at some point in time. Check it out, and definitely check out the entire album.
Avoid all others though, because they suck. This is a lightning in the bottle type record.
3. Haunted Garage "Possession Park". This is another early 90s CD that I found and enjoyed the shite out of. It's not great music like the first two, but it was incredibly fun and funny. As a Misfits fan this fell right into my wheelhouse. They were a horror metal band that focused on horror songs often influenced by horror movies (sound familiar?). There's one song that perfectly samples The Exorcist that nailed the humor. I started reading up on them after seeing this thread, and Danny Carey says playing a show with them was one of the most fun nights he has ever had (he was drumming for Green Jello at the time).

I bought The Clash's London Calling when I saw it at Albertson's (Lafayette) in 1979. I was 12 and had never heard of The Clash, but I liked the album cover.

I wasn't a kid but I bought Frampton Comes Alive because everyone else and their mothers were buying it at that time. It was awful and I ended up giving it away.
A few years later I bought The Pretenders debut album, because I had heard it was really good from a friend. She was correct.

An 8-Track of Television’s “Marquee Moon.” Talked my mom into buying it out of a bargain bin because they looked like zombies on the artwork.
“Big Lizard in My Backyard” by the Dead Milkmen was the first album (cassette) I bought with my own money. I thought the artwork was funny so I bought it.
