He comes across as pompous, elitist, and pseudointellectual.
I work with a guy like that. They're both dickheads.

plus my understanding is this show wasn't really selling tickets, so you are asking the venue to add more costs for a show with little revenue

Funny how when you shite on a big chunk of your audience for a few years, they stop paying to see you.
He was a great songwriter, but should have stuck to music.
Apparently the stories of his inflated ego from youth on up are being confirmed.
Haven't spent a dime on him since 2015 SMTF tour, and never will again.

I have the shot but I don't care if others have it or not. Why do you?

Jason Isbell's problem isn't politics, it's that for whatever reason, he doesn't put out music like he used to.

DBT through Southeastern hit a nerve that was awesome. Something More Than Free was good, but you could see some cracks. The last several albums have been like 30% or less good with some very not good music.

If he was still making Southeastern quality music, most people wouldn't give a shite about his politics.

Disappointing albums + in your face politics = a problem. But he's replacing lost fans with liberals who like his politics so they claim to like his music, so he doesn't give a frick. He's in the cool crowd now.

His songwriting has always been inconsistent to me. When he was with DBT it didn't show because he usually only had a couple of songs on each album. When he writes a great song though, it really resonates. Children Of Children, Cover Me Up, Flying OVer Water, Never Gonna Change, etc. All great songs. But every solo album of his is littered with just okay to bad songs. I don't mind the message of White Man's World, but the song itself is just bad. And his latest album has really grown on me. Overseas and Dreamsicle are great songs.

But all the diehard fans of his I know have been huge fans of his since his DBT days. I don't know a single person that has bailed on him because of his politics, though I know a lot have because I follow him on Twitter and see all the backlash he gets. I don't think he's really hurting for fans though.

Apparently only 1200 tickets were sold for a place than holds 6-7k in the covered pavilion. The lawn was closed for this show.

That 1200 included around 400 season ticket holders.

Crazy to me he was not selling more in a metro area this large.

There are a lot of tickets still available for his show here at Oak Mt Amphitheater as well. Seems he maybe got out in front of his skis a little and booked some places too large for him. I can't remember if this Bham show is a rescheduled one from last year. If so, wonder if Covid had anything to do with lower ticket sales.

Why didn't he just wear a mask while he sang instead of cancelling?

Honestly the spleen, I am literally shaken that you support an artist that lends his songs to a white nationalist that yells the n word on tik tok

It’s obvious that Jason isbell is a huge racist because he is best buddies with that racist Morgan wallen

He's not that big here. He's not even Pacifica radio-big here.

Americana acts in general usually play smaller venues here like the Heights Theater, White Oak amphitheater, etc, with seating in the low hundreds or upper dozens.

Maybe his people were disappointed in the ticket sales and looked for an excuse to bale.

He IS a great song writer

He has always been a big ego. If anything, he’s softer around the edges these days. You just dislike the topics more.

The crowds have not shrunk
