He gave the promoter, Live Nation, 12 days notice (7/31). Promoter isn't the owner of the venue. Venue says they only received notice of the request on Monday.

Blame that on Live Nation if you must. But for Isbell to go on social media and call the venue management liars, that is pretty shitty.

I'm not sure I really buy that when 2 other venues announced last week on 8/5 that they'd be implementing the protocol. I'd imagine the request went out from Live Nation to these venues at the same time. And one of those venues had 2 days to implement it and did so without issue. I would guess the ACL Live venue is a lot smaller than this pavilion though, so probably a lot easier to implement.

And the pavillion wanted him to play. My wife is in marketing/PR, yet made sure I could watch the kids tonight, because they were preparing to help check info at the gates due to this request. When they realized it wasn't feasible, they said they couldn't do it. You have no reason not to believe him, I have no reason not to believe her, haha. Maybe they just flat out said no and she was leaving an opening to run around on me, haha.

I know Live Nation is apparently sympathetic to the pavillion for all my wife knows so far. I'm sure they are playing both sides and are sympathetic to him. He's just the one putting them on blast. Wife is getting emails from the New York Times looking for comments. He could have totally managed it better, but knew if he struck first, he could place blame.

They have no reason to spin this. He's not nearly a big enough name compared to what they get there. There are canceled shows every year that they have to deal with the blowback even when it's not their fault. They are used to that. They aren't used to him being petty about it. And with such a hot topic.

Not sure why. Maybe it's because this is an outdoor venue, they thought it wouldn't apply. Live Nation has a contract with the pavillion for all contemporary shows (non performing arts). If Live Nation had the demand, it apparently wasn't fully communicated. He sent out his blanket statement saying all shows would require it on Monday. That's when they knew for sure.

Austin is more liberal for sure and I don't doubt they have been through these requests already, so are more ready to apply the protocol. This would be a first for the pavillion.

I know his next show in Fort Worth had to be moved to Billy Bob's.

Who the frick wants to watch a show August or September in the woodlands anyway. Hot as fricking BALLS on the side of a hill. Waiting for that Houston evening thunderstorm chance of about 40% on any given day.

Just makes Isbell look more foolish. It’s an outdoor venue you dumb frick. The Woodlands has never been like Coachella. Bunch of people with money under the actual pavilion. The rest sir on the side of a hill smoking weed.

Seems that every time I see his name it’s in association with something that makes me dislike him more.

I googled "new south blog" and Isbell trying to find the name of Bitter Southerner (all I could think of was yellowhammer news), found the G&G story of him being a maverick from a few years ago, and figured frick it I'll go with that

He's the epitome of the Bitter Southerner crowd, as you rightly note

Jason Isbell bought into his own hype and now he's a raging pretentious tool.

I got lucky to see him in a small venue about 5 years ago and he was awesome. I’m good now though, won’t see him again.

Dead and Co announced tonight they are requiring proof of vaccination or negative test at most shows. Woodlands is not one included for now but I would bet that’s going to change. Have you heard anything about this from your wife also?

I have tickets to it and I’m actually vaccinated but lost my damn card.

They should have everything in place if needed for Dead and Co.. There's a similar situation with Maroon 5. So I'd be prepared to show proof at those shows. Like you mentioned, they excluded The Woodlands from the list of shows that require it, so maybe they won't. But they have more time to confirm and get set up, so wouldn't be surprised.

Same. Saw him 3 times in a span of 2 years. First show was at piedmont park in atlanta and was amazing. 2nd was at the MPAC in Montgomery and was relatively mundane...but thats not a great venue. Third was at Sweetland Amphitheatre in Lagrange GA and it was pretty obvious he felt like he was too good for the West GA crowd. Went through the motions, played no encore....just douchey.

I really, really liked pre-Nashville Sound/2017 Jason Isbell.

With all the variants spreading, the idea that the vaccinated are any less likely to transmit COVID than the unvaccinated is a complete fallacy.

Isbell’s older music was legit. His new liberal bullshite music? Not so much. Same goes for American Aquarium. Liberal pricks. Having an opinion is one thing, but basically alienating a segment of your fan base isn’t cool.

His newest record has 2 songs that could be labeled political/social - Be Afraid and What Have I Done To Help. The album before that also has 2 - White Man's World and Hope the High Road.

By my count, he has a total of 4 political/social issue songs in his entire catalog. If that's enough to turn you off from him, that sounds more like a you problem.

Remember when musicians were counterculture and told us not to trust those in power?

That was cool.
