Venue had a weeks notice about the bands covid policy and refused to implement it so the band pulled out.

Wonder how the contracts work with this sort of thing…

My wife works for the venue. Dude is a punk. He/his label blatantly lied in their press release. Venue is understaffed already since there is a shortage in unskilled labor. On a few days notice, they wanted them to come up with a plan to let a couple thousand people try to get into the venue and get checked for vaccine/test status. Getting in the gates is the biggest issue and they want them to double or triple that workload when they already don't have the personnel. I think the venue offered for them to find an oustide service that would do the checks and even offered for them to use another venue. They said they couldn't find necessary staff for other venues . Yet this venue "refused" to comply with his demands.

I'm a DBT fan, not really a Jason Isbell fan...but I like these type of shows coming around. I told my wife they should have told the guy to kick rocks right away. They tried to work with him, but he's going to go online and make it look like they did just that anyway.

I have no doubt the venue barely has enough staff to make the shows happen & then virtue signaling Isbell has the gall to put the venue in a situation that is out of their control & then blames them. It truly is amazing just how out of touch these leftist entertainers are from the real world.

It doesn't seem to be a problem with any other venues....yet. Several have come out in support of this and implemented similar policies themselves.

Basically the venues have to hire tons of extra people and that wasn’t in the contract originally signed by the band.

Pretty sure that was due to scheduling conflicts with the movie he's involved in.

This venue is even looking to implementing this as necessary for future shows that request it. They just can't do it with 3 days notice. People don't realize this is a non-profit entity meant to use the money it makes from shows to produce free performing arts shows for the community.

plus my understanding is this show wasn't really selling tickets, so you are asking the venue to add more costs for a show with little revenue

He gave them 12 days notice, they weren't interested in complying... Houston's loss...

His entire journey from gritty deep south musician to a wealthier, more polished, progressive and holier than thou icon is just so cliche, yet I really think he views himself as some "new south" voice in the wilderness. You're now beloved by corporations and fellow celebrities - a true testament to moral courage!

It's so cringeworthy

Not true. Dude is spewing a bunch of nonsense, such as blaming the "Owner". There is no owner. Place was donated as an endowment from Cynthia Woods-Mitchell and is run by a board as a non profit. He's 100% using this as a "look at me, I'm fighting for vaccines". I know my wife knew about this Monday and the venue has been working to figure out a way to get something to work since. They even asked him to reschedule so they'd have time to comply, he turned it down. They are willing, just not able to with the time frame he gave them. He can make the venue the scapegoat instead of lose fans that paid for tickets though.

He has gotten more pretentious since getting sober and marrying Amanda, but he hasn't strayed too far from his roots. He just has a larger platform now and isn't afraid to use it. I first saw him live around 2002 or 2003 and he said something in defense of the Dixie Chicks while introducing a song.

IMO defending the Dixie Chicks to a bar room full of frat stars, military guys, rednecks, etc. is actually bold and interesting. Lots of that in music. James McMurtry is a socialist and he talks about it in front of guys who would love to kill commies.

2021 Jason views himself this way, when in reality he's going on the Today show and selling records to well-to-do southern progressives that *purely coincidentally* are exactly what they want to hear to feel more enlightened than their fellow southerners while still feeling like they're right out of Garden and Gun.

I have no reason, not to believe him... I believe he wanted to play..

He mentioned Jerry MacDonald – President and CEO (I guess not technically the owner) didn't want to comply, even though the promoter (Live Nation) was willing to...

I tend to believe that their public response was more spin...

I dont know all the details and honestly am not too concerned... and people on both sides may have been given incomplete information.

Bottom line is the Venue isn't implementing the change (while many others are) and he wasn't backing off his policy either... so, no show..

His fanbase is more Bitter Southerner than G&G. I think he can be a bit much sometimes, but I don't think he's really putting on any airs on who he is or what he believes.

That's just me though. I'm not even a huge fan of his and his fanbase kind of gets on my nerves.
