Actually he's a well documented douche and that's long before you even get into his political opinions, which are extraordinarily hypocritical for a rich guy with an estate in the Hamptons. But yes, he is an extremely talented musician, although I'll say his self-indulgence eventually drug the band down overall.

I'm not a country music or Americana music fan at all. I've never listened to a Jason Isbell song in my life. The dude seems like every other hypocritical, disingenuous white savior douchebag that fills the ranks of progressivism. It's unfortunate that he's taken seriously instead of simply being told to sit down and stfu.

Oh he’s unbearable with his opinions and how outspoken he is. However, his music is spectacular. You’d think it would carry over but it really doesn’t. At least his old music. His old stuff is all time great music. I listen to it religiously.

Do not follow him on any platform. He can have his own views and I can like his music. I don’t let politics control me that damn much.

“Me and Amanda were in Jackson Hole, and I was on the elliptical and I thought about this project and went, ‘What if Brandi sang it?’” Jason Isbell said in a 2019 feature on the supergroup for Rolling Stone. “And I started going, ‘Gay country song! Gay country song!’ I called Amanda [Shires] and went ‘Gay country song! Gay country song!’”

This is who he is. What a homo.

I gave both of those a listen, and I'll say I wasn't impressed. My first impression is that he reminds me of The Black Keys, which is to say, it seems hipsterish and unauthentic.

If I'm gonna listen to something country-fied, I'll stick to this:
Casualties of Cool- Mountaintop

Here's another song with Devin and Ché Aimee Dorval playing together. She looks amazing in that streamlined dress. Devin is an example of a white artist that works with black artists simply because they are genuinely talented and he wants to make music with them. No Twitter promotion, no interviews, no fawning sycophants licking his woke arse crack. Just music.
Devin Townsend- Disco Inferno

Read that yesterday and DAMN did Trigger absolutely take apart and annihilate both Isbell and that shitty article. That was a thorough arse whipping.

It most certainly has country influences to it. The best label I've seen put on it is ambient country or space country. You should give the whole album a listen if you liked Mountaintop.

buzzfeed is eye cancer, that's for sure. they are bottom of the barrel "journalism".

the mickey guyton/amanda shires situation was one that no one made a big deal about and they should've tbh. that was shitty what happened to her.

But it’s another to regularly engage in severe judgement of others while overlooking one’s own iniquities and refusing to offer forgiveness in a way that can only be characterized as illiberal hypocrisy veering towards outright bigotry. Meanwhile, these actions are unequivocally hurting the causes Jason Isbell claims to be championing, while simultaneously polarizing the music space for everyone, turning off even supporters of his music, and his beliefs.

change "jason isbell" to "roger waters" and the entire passage remains accurate. this is nothing new and nothing specific to isbell

I've long thought that Jason protests a little much, as is the case with many of the progressive bitter southerner types.

I suspect that a detailed investigation of Jason's past would probably reveal some things - and perhaps choice words - that would make Morgan Wallen blush. He's got all the makings of a guy fraudulently trying to put distance between the persona he's crafted and the real human being he used to be.

Interesting article calling Isbell out for being an unforgiving hypocritical little bitch.

Good article. I have listened to him for many years and saw him in concert before he got so unhinged. Too bad. Won’t be seeing him anymore.

I haven't really liked much from him since Southeastern. He got really sterile, bland, boring, and self-righteous.
