Yeah. I have more respect for actors/musicians that realize that going political is just going to offend around half of their audience, no matter what stance they take on an issue, than I have for the assholes that seem to feel like we are waiting with baited breath to hear their take on Climate Change.

How a bout leave Wallen to himself and stay out of his business for it is none of his. Isbell has nothing to gain by being self righteous and of no blame.

Yes, because calling everyone you hate a "racist" for no reason is always the best way to fight racism.

Q: "What is your view on war protestors? And would you today refuse to be drafted?"

Elvis Presley: "I'd just as soon keep my personal views about that to myself. I'm just an entertainer and I'd rather not say."

Q: "Do you think other entertainers should keep their views to themselves?"

E: "No"

I've always loved that

Speak for yourself.

I don’t understand this thought that, if you’re famous or even semi famous, you can’t give an opinion on anything. Why not? I hear and read the shitty opinions of non famous people all the time. Why can’t they just shut up and do whatever their stupid job is.

Maybe they don’t care who gets offended. The same people who love Trump and the like because they “tell it like it is”, hate when a musician does it.

Such a snowflake wuss. Mind your business, male Karen. I don’t like Wallen’s music, but dude has gone through enough BS without this dude weighing in like the damn Gestapo.
I don't like him myself, but it's weird that you are saying you can't like someone's music because they are a bad person. If that's your standard, be prepared to subtract a good portion of all artists from your list.

I'm sure plenty on this board like RATM - despite their overt communism.

Plenty of Jerry Lee fans here as well.

So put on the album and stop seeking out their opinions or feeling of friendship through social media.

Elvis was coached by the colonel when it came to the press.

I feel like there is a big and conflicting overlap between:

Shut up and play I don’t want to hear your opinion

I only listen to guys I want to have a beer with

My issue isn't giving one's opinion. Jason is a very good songwriter and a musician and a very ignorant/feeble minded person on political/socio/cultural matters. My issue is him conflating the two, and using the platform/fan support built on the former to lecture those same people on the latter.

I'm not sure how you distinguish that in practice - maybe you have separate individual/professional accounts, go the extra mile to express your views while remaining charitable toward your supporters, etc.

I think it's particularly annoying with Jason because he's an entertainment cliche. Blue collar musician makes it big and turns up the leftist sneering toward the people he writes about, grew up with, who supported his career, etc.? Not exactly novel.

In his 1972 NYC press conference he was specifically asked a political question (about the Vietnam War IIRC) and declined to answer, saying he's an entertainer, not a politician.

ETA: I see someone already mentioned it.

Pink Floyd's catalogue doesn't sound 99.9% the same.

That said, Roger Waters is a major league jackass. Listen to what you like, say what you like. Unlike the left, I don't believe in censoring those I don't agree with...but prepare to be called on it. Isbell is a douche. He's put it in writing more than once.

He’s a douche because you disagree with his political OPINIONS. He’s a phenomenal songwriter and guitarist.

It's really nothing close to censoring. It's simply making a choice to listen or not.
