The mood, the tone. Which other solos approach it?

Time is the only competition. Both are masterpieces by Gilmour.

Yes. No one can match Gilmour in absolute beautifully perfect tone of a guitar.

Not even David Gilmour's best solo IMO.

Not even close. Solo on Cars “All I can do” blows it away. LINK

I would put Stairway, Peg and Sultans of Swing up there.

Delta Tiger, you gotta be kidding( I gave Aa I Can Do) a listen. In my opinion its not in the same universe as Gilmours in Comfotaly Numb.

I'd argue it's not even the best solo of the Gilmour catalog. That goes to Time IMO.

To be fair it’s two solos while Time only has one.

Styles are too different.

You want speed? Technicality? Tone? Blizzard of notes?

SRV Little Wing version to me is the best mix of all. He checks each box.

Comfortably Numb is definitely one of many.
Time is really good too.
Greatest of all time? Depends on who you ask.

I'll argue that the solo in Fat Old Sun at Live in Gdansk is his best. He captures so much emotion in it and that's what makes a solo great to me. I want to feel it. I don't really care about technical prowess.

The famous Fred Durst solo comes to mind for me.
